How many of the available functions did you ever use? I have one like it, but as far as I can recall, I only ever used it to multiply, divide, extract square roots, evaluate trig and log functions... It basically replaced the book of tables that we used in high school.

I'm likely a bit younger - I know how to use slide rule, also I know log tables - but electronic calculators appeared before I had to use slide rule (or tables) for real calculations.

But I have used blowlamps (not lately) and sawtooth setters - these even last year :)
Unfortunately I have never got an idea to take photos of tools... Someting to do next summer.

Although I had access to computers from the late 1960s onwards, they were not so convenient to use back then and for more minor calculations I used a slide rule or mechanical calculators. I acquired my first personal electronic calculator in 1975 for £32, which I still use to this day. The keys are large and well-spaced and it is much nicer to use than the more modern versions or a calculator app on a phone, etc.

    Great idea!

Calculators were already very common when I was born, so I guess I don't have a lot when it comes to unusual old tools... However I love shooting some some:

    Pencils

I have a weakness for old propelling pencils. This is part of my collection. I still use an old Yard o lead to take notes at site meetings.

I saw this in a shop window today: a German QWERTZ keyboard, of course! The red keys look as if they are tabs to place the different sections of a letter.

The shop itself looked pretty derelict, so I dont think the typewriter was for sale.

As a kid I was always fascinated by older mechanical typewriters. As an old fellow, I am still fascinated as a kid!!! 😄 Nice find

I've been collecting Chinese Fountain pens. They make some really really nice pens. Some homages to popular big name brands, lots of their own design. I use them at work when measuring up & sketching designs for fabricated components prior to modelling in AutoCAD. They work really really well in that environment, they don't seem to mind a bit of dirt, dust & oil, & just keep on working. Easy to refill, I like them a lot.
