Well actually €4000, but I paid for most of the camera with gear I had not used for months or even years, apart from my aging Z7.

I have been debating two things recently. Was it time to retire my Z7, first version, before it lost any resale value, and was it time to empty the gear cupboard of all those lenses that might come in useful one day, and a second D850 body bought second hand, that my Z8 has made redundant. The cull was brutal, and five lenses were deemed surplus to needs, including my Tamron 300mm 2.8 which was used for my best photography back in the day.

For those of lucky enough to have a photo dealer, emptying the gear cupboard, when we buy new gear can sweeten the pill often considerably. I was surprised how much I got for my old gear. Used prices seem to have risen.

On the other hand keeping old gear is a risk. My D300 stored in a cupboard in the house had gone mouldy along the joints. None of my film cameras stored in the loft worked. Strangely my Pentax Spotmatic, my first camera still works as well as the day it was bought. .

Well done for getting what you did.

I tend not to keep stuff for long, but I admit I am finding it hard to let go of lenses I don't use (I might need them one day!!!). But just in case, I do store them all on a shelf above a radiator - not in their boxes and not anywhere cold and damp. I just hope that's enough.
