Hub recommendations?

I need recommendations for a hub that will allow me to leave my laptop at home when I go on holiday.
In order to achieve this (and avoid losing photos as a result of camera theft), I need a way of connecting my camera (or at least its memory card - SD format because Micro-SD has always been too fiddly for me) to an SSD as local backup and to my Samsung Android phone. The phone will provide me with the operating system to copy files from the camera/memory to the SSD, a job I have hitherto left to whichever operating system I had on the laptop.
Loads of USB hubs for sale on Amazon (IT, UK, FR, DE in that order of preference) but nobody has the answer to which device can power the SSD (its not clear how much power I can take OFF the phone) and which devices can work at USB 3.2 V1 speed.
So, over to the experienced. Please share your war stories, bad as well as good!
