Is humour allowed or will it cause too much distraction from the general peace & quite & moderation of the site.
I mean so long as it doesn't start the reitteration some great debate?

Like discussion, humour is definitely allowed, but if the 'humour' breaches the conditions of service, it is not. If any statement is causing disruption, it's likely to get 'moderated'.

What a question! I would not want to be somewhere where humor is not allowed. We are not in North Korea. Well, and even there - but only behind closed walls.
