Exposure threads also kill traffic. Who looks at a thread with 400+ posts and says to themselves, "That's a discussion I've got to join!"? The childish diarrhetic bickering between certain members of this forum is a serious buzz kill. Their involvement in any discussion immediately takes a thread that may have had genuine potential and transforms it into a mosh pit.

Based on the couple of times I looked, I don't think it was really a discussion on exposure.

I think the thread was splitting hairs on terminology by fellows who had to be right, quibbling over semantics.

It's like being on an restaurant patio on a very busy street. If the setting and noise bothers you (collective you), go inside or go to the patio on the back. I went into that thread a couple of times for a brief look, made my judgement, and didn't go back. I don't need to argue over what might bother someone else.

The above is not directed a you, just a general comment based off yours and others comments.

Then, "trolling" in my youth in Louisiana was a colloquialism. We didn't even speak proper French, let alone the King's English... šŸ˜†

And what of the mythical creature which lurks under bridges and leaps out on unwary travellers?

ā€œ Trolls, of course, are strongly associated with Scandinavian folklore, and the troll on his bridge is what signals the storyā€™s Norwegian origins. The word stems from Old Norse nouns troll and troll meaning ā€˜fiendā€™ or ā€˜demonā€™. The word for someone who annoys people on the internet for the hell of it, by the way, is unrelated: that ā€˜trollā€™ is from the French verb troller, meaning to go in quest of game or sport.ā€. The term works to describe bad forum behavior on many levels.

You are teasing me aren't you...lol
I'm certainly not in favour of heavy handed moderation. Are you in favour of 'Six of the Best'?
Alan, if you don't mind me asking, were you really taught by Ms Rogers, or was that a ruse?

I stand both corrected and humbled, I learn some new daily.

Her name was Mary Waters (mother of Roger Waters) and she taught me at Colville school in Cherryhinton (feel free to look it up). She got me through my 11+ exams. She was also a keen member of the Labour party (as were my parents) and they all knew each other out of school. I may well have met Roger when I was younger, but I don't remember.

    Thanks for sharing.
I don't doubt you. Labour party then is certainly not the labour party of today. Just like in the USA, the Democratic party of the JFK era is certainly not anything like it is today. The administration today resembles a banana republic.
I've seen Roger Waters many times in concert, but his recent shows are the worst ever...he brings political activism into his performances. Ruins the whole experience of the music.

I emphatically agree. There are very few people concerned in promoting this exercise of tone lowering and mud slinging, and it is quite clear to all who they are. It is a very bad advert for the forum and should be dealt with ASAP to prevent a permanent stain on our reputation.

That is so wrong on every count. It is narrow mindedness like yours that should be prevented. Stop trying to impede free discourse. If you don't like it, stop looking and whinging!

Stig, there are more polite ways of saying what you said above. I would appreciate it if you would read your posts and possible tone the emphasis down a bit before replying.

There is no ill intent in my saying. I prefer to get to the point without kid gloves. Most are grown adults here and can handle it, aside from the snowflakes.
