I am trying to update my Sony A1 firmware. The Sony instructions tell me to install the "camera driver" first. To install the camera driver, you must reboot and go into a startup security utility to allow the driver. When I did this, I got pink horizontal bars on my monitor. I undid the settings in the startup security utility and the computer is back to normal but I'm no closer to being able to install the updated firmware on my camera.
Anyone have any idea what my next steps should be?

OK, two more times and I got it to work. Not sure what made it work. The software does get errors not ejecting disks when it reboots the camera.
This is so much easier on a PC.

I don't think Sony and Apple like each other. Trying to get my Sony camera to send photos to an iPhone is something I gave up on..... just doesn't work!
Well done for persevering and getting it done!

Why can't your camera install firmware from the SD card? Maybe A1 is too old. I've done it with other cameras, but never owned a Sony.

The Olympus Workspace application similarly wanted me to lower security, but I didn't, and everything works except the camera driver, which was unnecessary for me anyway.

Must be too old. The only option offered by Sony for updating the A1 is running a program on the computer with the camera connected via USB-C.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Camera companies don't seem to be very good supporting companion Mac or PC S/W. Fujifilms is way behind the curve.
Apple has over the past several years been implementing an architecture where the user has control over what resources an app can access based on
current treat data for security reasons. Sometimes these measures get in the way. It can be frustrating from time to time. However, in general those measures are
shared with application designers at Apple's development conferences.

Both my Leica Fotos app and the new Fujifilms X app on the iPhone will download a F/W update, connect the the camera, transfer the code and kick off the update within the camera. That I find to be a much preferable method.
