Scroll down and you will see my two opinions on the matter.
It's not commercial spam.
Obviously up to management, but if we're taking votes as forum users, I actually like the idea of members being able to sell their services and help each other in this manner. Plenty of times I've had a stubborn image that I just couldn't get right and wished I had an editing wizard I could pay to bail me out.
On one of my other forums, I have a section for commercial ads where anyone can advertise their wares.
I'll chat with Bob and see whether that's an option here.
Alan
Happy to chat here. I don't have a hard and fast issue. It would be a service people want, so why not. I'd think that we'd need some liability disclaimers, and if people posting their services, what we think are the limits, if any are needed above the normal terms of service.
Bob,
I could set up another forum (probably under Miscellaneous categories) - but before I do that, can you think of some words to describe what can and cannot go in there?
Alan
For limits I’d think in terms of relevance for photographers
Not sure we couldn't just extend the 'items for sale' forum to 'items and services for sale'. The same for wanted. It's not that busy as it is, so a few services being offered wouldn't go amiss. For the moment we could just stick with advice for 'photography related', and a note that our ToS on illegality applies.
Services related to photography and photographers.
No pole dancin' or lawn mowin' Ads allowed. lol
For (related) products you would be looking at an advertising / forum sponsor fee.
I was thinking of a 'services offered ot wanted as a separate forum in that area. That way, we could add in specifics for services which may not be relevant if one is selling a camera (for example).
Alan
And I vote for no. Agree that is up to management, but that whole WTB area would be a fine place to post looking for help from an editing wizard or regular photoshop user. Unless someone is asking for your service, it's spam. One of the primary reasons I have left several alleged groups for professionals is the allowance of people looking for work. Unless someone is asking to hire you, we are not interested and don't care if you can do it. That's not a knock at anyone, but again, if no one is asking, that's spam.
I agree.
I think the offer for PP Services for Photographers (like the I-am-a-professional-editor-looking-to-take-on-new-clients message) was in right place at "services for Photographers - offered or wanted". I think that like a small business b2b. He's providing his services for us, so this is the right place.
But I see less idea to offer here photographic services for brides. Those are not members of this forum.
