    Another lovely monochrome.
I read or heard from a pro somewhere recently, that he recommended setting your camera to RAW+JPEG and to Monochrome then shooting everything that way. It helps you concentrate on composition and exposure more. The RAW still contains all the color info so you can adjust that as you see fit in post, but, he claimed you'd get better images to start with this way. I haven't tried it - wondered if any of you have?

Funny u should mention that that's the way I have set my Pentax K3 up so I get the raw with all the colour and the Monochrome JPEG, everything as u say is in monochrome through the viewfinder and LCD screen, takes a bit of getting used to but its a great help when composing .Paul 🙂👍

I do set up my two walk about cameras -- M5.3 & M10.2 -- almost that way. I generally only save the RAW file as I convert to TIFFs using OV3 and can always convert to Color if needed before the conversion. If I used any another software package to convert to TIFF or JPEG then the Raw file would probably be seen only as color, so the JPEG would be useful as it would be monochrome. (I have not seen any PP software that is not Olympus that keeps that monochrome setting .. )

With the walk about I'm usually more interested in the tonality than color and the advantage of setting the camera to monochrome for me is that monochrome image I see in the view finder ... That was never available in film days .. and occasionally i will convert from monochrome and color and use both files in PP ...

Not sure what I've just written is clearer than mud but then ..

    WhyNot

Interesting. I thought Leitz was the only one doing that.

Would be nice with a small (pocketable) camera with viewfinder and a short, bright zoom or a bright prime, 50mm eq. or a little less, at a reasonable price. A girl can dream... 😛

There is a rumour that pentax will do that also with the Ricoh GR 3 🙂

Too wide angle and not cheap. Interesting anyway.

What would be really cool is if that pesky filter could be separate from the sensor so it could be sort of folded away when not needed. 😃
