An invitation to dust off your precious (or not so precious) glass and head out to make some photographs: the real reason for the existence of all our lenses.

    Here are the guidelines:

    • Images with a removable adapter between lens and camera
    • Images with the lens mount permanently modified to fit a different camera
    • Images with the lens held by hand without an adapter (freelensing)
    • Including metadata (camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed) is encouraged but not required.

Comments are encouraged, but please keep them friendly and constructive.

Continued from the June 2023 Part 1 thread.

I’m starting a thread again this month. However, with the news that DPR will continue, I’m trying to decide out whether I’ll continue here or focus my energy back on DPR.

    Regards,

    Alan

I spent a couple of weeks working day and night at our observatory on the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir in Baja California. My mental-health self-care routine was to wander out with a coffee and a 350 mm lens most mornings.

Originals on Flickr here and here.

    Regards,

    Alan

Great capture! Effective composition and I like the tones and detail.

While I think a vast majority of the people contributing to the adapted lens section have decided to return to dpreview, I'm going to stay here for a while. I enjoy the broader discussions and the greater connection between different subforums (I was only ever active in the adapted lens one on dpreview), as well as the different approach in terms of moderation and reacting to the wishes of users. So I think this site has earned giving it a real chance.

Because you're frequently using EF lenses, if memory serves me - this thread has been started yesterday:
    dprevived.com/t/lens-adaptation-chronicles/4445/
Perhaps you might have something to add there.

The Tomioka-made Macro-Yashinon 60 mm f/2.8 lens is considered by some to be among the best manual focus macro lenses of all time. Having tried it recently, I can absolutely see why:

Great portrait! I like the lighting. When looking at it embedded, I thought about a slightly different edit, but when I downloaded it and viewed it locally, it actually looked great (the background gets lost in the embedded view for some reason). So I've tried something completely different instead and did a B/W edit:

Do you shoot portraits regularly? I feel like I've still got to learn a lot in that area...

I appreciate your comments. People photography has always interested me. Not so much setup portraits but musical performance and some minor street work. All using available light or stage lighting. Central Texas is a target rich environment for photographing musicians and San Antonio where I live is full of visitors most of the time. Alas I don't get out much these days.

Funny you should do a B&W edit. I'm not actually very good with color. Most of my work is B&W. I'll post a couple to give you an idea.

    Very nice captures! 👍

I don‘t do a lot of B&W but with portraits I often prefer it. Have you ever tried shooting some with a projector lens? I feel like some of those are very well suited to portraiture, because of their rendering and optimization for a similar distance.

Projector lenses are interesting just for the challenge of adapting. One day I may find one to try. In the meantime there are unexplored possibilities with my current lenses. It is all fun.

Yup - same here! Lots to explore and experiment still with the lenses I have. Here's a recent experimental self-portrait of mine, taken with a PC projector lens:

😅 Might have to do with the additional blur caused by the tilting. Otherwise there‘s not much I can do about that, I guess! 😉

I'm trying to understand if there is some out-of-focus or some micro movements.

Three days in a row I get poor results.

I was trying to take "completely out of focus" shots. The lens was focused around 1:1 magnification.
I went too near to this flower and found out that I like more pictures with some sharp elements than
    "completely out of focus" pictures😉.

I like it - very beautiful colors and background! The bokeh is quite busy closer to the focus point... reminds me of the Kodak "Printing Ektar" (barrel) lenses. If you ever stumble upon one of these, they can be had very cheap and are very nice lenses for bokeh-experiments:

I also get that you prefer shots with something in focus - I honestly do as well most of the time! But it's never a bad thing to keep an open mind, I'd say.
