Pictures from the annual Kinetic Sculpture Race around Humboldt Bay and south to The Eel River Valley.
They must go over 40 miles on pavement, dirt, sand, mud, and some of them must cross the bay and the river powered only by human muscle. They must float, progress, and steer on land and water.
Andrew said this forum will accept 18 pictures in one post so I'll give that a try.
Edit: I must have read it wrong. 16 are allowed.

They stop here at the beach to change to sand tires and install their flotation if it isn't built in. These tires will aid the flotation.

The little girl in the yellow frock is smarter than the rest. They run around and try to make bubbles while she just turns into the wind and lets the wind do the work.

They need lots of ground clearance and I think they will roll from being too high.

Very entertaining Rich! Great to see again! It looks like a lot of work so you had the better idea of just enjoying their efforts!

5;35 am here. I have had a couple of hours sleep but that is about it. I am out of it but not really asleep. Strange! I will look at these later on the pc. On my phone mostly reclined in the lazy boy.

I had a look at dpreview a few hours ago. It was painfully slow to load. I think their bandwidth has been crippled. Craig, Dave, Dicky, Pete and others are hanging out there.

They look even better on my PC Rich! The brake mechanism had me wondering how it would be engaged and disengaged. I see part of it is attached to a gear so I suspect there is an activation lever or the like somewhere. It has been a while since I last saw the term Occam's Razor used. My wife told me the pool pump and fountain pump were not working this morning, that the breaker had gone. The fountain pump has an extension cord lying in the garden which she watered. The breaker in question was a ground fault breaker. No doubt you can see how Occam's Razor applies to this situation as well! I unplugged the extension cord from the receptacle and then the fountain pump from the other end and elevated the end to dry out. Now it is off to the Dollar Store to get a plastic bowl with a lid that I can notch and place the extension cord into the container and place it upside down so water can not enter, unless there is flood or I get a better idea!

    Andrew

By the way, I was sure it said 18 but perhaps I was hallucinating and it really said 16!

I got involved years ago for a season. It is a lot of work.

I wonder if you are not sleeping because of pain, or if it is another cause ?

I just tired dpreview and it opened quickly and the thread I tried opened quickly, too. My situation with the estate has been prolonged to at least August and I'm trying to avoid any stress I can. This situation with dpreview and dprevived is stressful and sad and I am trying to keep it from getting to me...as much as I can. Ultrasound picture three weeks ago shows my aneurysm is growing and I may go in for risky surgery at a moment's notice. That is what I sent you mis addressed email about a few weeks ago. I was in a bad state, expecting to go in for surgery right away, but the gears of the medical providers grind slowly here, too. So, I am in limbo and don't much care about it anymore. Rich

I don't know which brake set up you are referring to, Andrew. The Occam brakes are powered by armstrong via the grip on the end of the lever. The 70s Ford juice set up has a rod running forward to likely a champignon pedal like a Citroen. I complimented one of the team on the juice brakes and he told me they were damn near impossible to bleed fully and were spongy. I told him that they had put the master cylinder equidistant from the rear brakes and from the front brakes so there is no way to start bleeding from the furthest brake cylinder to chase the bubbles. He got the message and said they would redesign for next year.

Our dollar stores are now dollar and a quarter stores. Rich

The brakes are in entry #140.

Our dollar stores have little under a dollar and many things up to $5! There may even be more expensive stuff. My wife goes to one at least once a month for birthday and other cards because they are $1 unlike Hallmark and like cards that are often $8 or more here. Then there is the more than $1 postage for each card. She sends out ten times as many as we get.

I have flower and garden pictures but I have to process them yet.

On an unrelated note, I am looking for an inexpensive Tequila that is ok for margarittas and available at the LCBO. Any suggestions? The least expensive one I could find in the local LCBO was a few cents under $40!

In the last 18 months I have been having more and more senior moments, Andrew. There has been lost of stress in the last 18 months and it is still going on. Some of them are actually senior moments, but some of them aren't, yet make me think that they are. Unless I'm round the bend entirely there is no entry #140.

During covid our dollar stores changed to a dollar and a quarter. There is nothing for one dollar anymore.

The last time I got Tequila I bought a 1.75 of Jose Cuervo Gold Blue Agave at Costco. It was about $20. I'm still sipping on it. I don't buy cheap distilled spirits because it often contains impurities which increase the time it takes for the body to remove them, thus mild hangover. Cuervo is all made in the same distillery and not slam banged. They are proud of it.

I'm going out right now and get a sunburn. Rich

140 is the thirteenth image of your set.

That is the same brand I bought, but colourless. I do not recall the name. $40 CAD for 750 mL. Big price difference! You can not afford to drink here!

I've never seen you yell before, Andrew. You might hurt my feelers. 🥲 Nah, kidding. Anyhow, I was looking at my file numbers in the post, some of which are in the 135 to 145 numerical range. I was trying to figure it out and I never considered the entry numbers on the vehicles. Now do you see why I was confused?
I wonder if the enormous price difference between your hooch and ours is all due to taxes. I hope you are enjoying a maggie right now. Rich
