I ended up buying the little Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro
After several frustrations of not being able to get any closer with my Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR

And I was pleasantly surprised by the results with the Laowa.
I've made a comparison for my own personal pleasure, I share it with you here

I'm obviously interested in your comments if possible.

Nice sharp focus, and some with a good depth of field. I have two wide angle (12mm and 15mm shift) Laowa lenses, which I like.

By the way, the flickr interface is quite difficult to comtrol on my ipad!

I have the Laowa 65 2x macro for a Canon EF-M mount . It is an incredibly sharp lens. It has probably logged more time on my camera this summer than any other lens and I would buy it again in a heartbeat if it was lost or stolen. A 52 to 43 stepdown ring and a raynox 250 works well to get you even closer

I have to admit that the Laowa's 2:1 ratio is more than enough for me at the moment.

Great - hope you have fun! Laowa provides some pretty incredible value for money. I'm not familiar with the 65 mm f/2.8 but I've heard from a trusted source that the 100 mm 2x is as good as macro lenses get at the moment...

I'll freely admit that some of my 40 year old specialty lenses are starting to struggle keeping up with modern products like that...

... then again, some dont just yet: 😂

(It's probably fair to add that this particular, curious sample - barely resembling a lens at all - is likely closer to 33 years of age, so not too far away from my own year of manufacture)

    33 is my son's age 😱

What I also like about the 65mm is that it is very small and light. 335g only.
And I only paid $285 USD for my copy
I have a feeling I'll be walking around with this setup regularly this fall. 😎

That's a really nice looking camera and lens combo!

BTW. are your sample shots with the Laowa taken on a tripod or handheld?

Both, for the first part, the photos were taken with a tripod to maintain the same framing from f/2.8 to f/22.
The second part, without a tripod, the X-T5 is very easy and pleasant to use with a manual lens.

I'm envious of the knobs and the "real" trigger button on your Fuji!

I have the corresponding lens for MFT and love it. I suck with macro, but that's me, not the lens, but I use it a lot for "normal" shots. Your feeling is right, it's great to walk around with. But I hate the wheels and low and slippery buttons on my OM-1. Come winter I don't think I'll be able to handle the camera with gloves. It's hard enough to find the buttons with bare hands without looking.

The biggest drawback of my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II for me is its ball-jointed screen, which I hate.

I realize now I got confused...It actually was simplejoy's fault. 😜 I don't think there is a corresponding MFT lens for the one you got. I have the 50mm macro.

I have its big brother the 100mm F/2.8 2x for my Z mount camera it delivers fantastic results at a very good price point. Due to the convenience of AF, EXIF , stacking etc I do use the 105mm MC a lot more. Once you move away from 1x magnification macro gets more challenging

A tad, yes. And since I still haven't managed a sharp 1:1 without tripod it's probably just a little bit out of my league.😂

Still cool though. Laowa is very creative.
