    Hi everyone,

Another guy come from the closed dpreview. Didn't change my username, still zorgtool.

So to start with something here, I will go to Italia in few weeks. I will only in city (Firenze-Florence & Bologna), I will carry my GFX 100s and my 23mm/45mm/50mm.

I'm scratching my head to decide if I will carry another lenses and if so which one between my 110mm and my 250mm. What do you think ?

It maters what you want. Greg was just in Rome and now in Jordan doing travel photography. Rome he was mainly shooting wide 23-30mm range and in Jordan shooting 45-100 a lot. He has a flicker page which y ou can check out. How is the 250 for weight and size?

GF110 will be great for street portraits. Personally took the GF35-70 and GF110 to Bhutan and was quite happy. Would have loved the GF250 in some situations but these were hike in areas so might not have carries it at the time.
GF250 will be great for photographs from say car.

There are a few recent travel posts in DPreview as some zombies (joking) posters still kicking around. So please look there and cross pollinate. Greg has a lot, and I mean a lot, of travel photography photographs. Check out his flicker page.

Enjoy your trip. Also, I like to pack a MCEX-16G macro tube for a little more then giggles. It weighs nothing and if like to shoot macro/close up it is easy to take.

Oh thanks. I will check that.

It's little over 1.2 kg. But it's not only the weight they are also the size of this little «monster», with the lenses hood on it's like some paparazzi's monster lenses. I've no idea how that will do in a (as I understand it) crowed city.
I also heard that Italia street are very narrow (so the each building can benefit the shadow of the next building).

    Ok.
Thanks for the input, I will think about it.

I went to Italy in the fall and would recommend the GF32-64, GF80, GF100-200. I took other lenses, but barely used them. I thought I'd use the GF20-35 a lot, but rarely took it out. You can see the pics here.

You certainly don't need a 45mm and 50mm lens. If one of them is a specialty lens, then take it and leave the other home. Then I would take the 110mm lens in it's place. The 250mm in cities will be more for architectural details and I doubt you will have time to spend on that.

I was in Rome last week with the 20-35, 45-100, 100-200, and 45. For the first time in years, I only brought 4 lenses on a trip. I shot in Rome for 8 days with nothing but the 20-35 which left my camera hardly at all. Some of my Flickr friends were ribbing me about it and said I was too in love with 20mm in Rome. They were getting dizzy looking at 20mm (16mm FF) wide shots and ask me to please shoot a few at 45 and up.

I'm still amazed that I can stand in a cathedral with an F4 GF lens and with that great IBIS, shoot at 1000 to 1600 ISO at 1/15 (usually) and get tripod-like shots (in terms of stability). Of, I would prefer to shoot at F8 or 9 0r 10 (or 11) and get more of the foreground in focus and ISO 100, which would be a long exposure and thus require a tripod....

But anyway, I'm in Jordon now and in a rental car and Teresa and I are hitting all the sites and I'm shooting the 45-100 more. Thye bald desert skies and haze are killing me, but I try to hide as much sky as I can (or crop it away).... Maybe I should sky replace! I hate sky replace.

Anyway, I was so far behind in post that I took a day off yesterday and just did LR all day and posted some Jordon shots - still behind in post.

Anyway, I think you have a nice prime combo there. 23-45-50. Nothing wrong with that, but you need more reach. You need the 45-100, which you don't have, so take the 110. The 250 is just too much load man. I've done it plenty of times. But you pay a heavy price! LOL.

Having the 250 is wonderful. That lens is gold. But gold is heavy and hard to walk around with without getting robbed.

Just kidding - Italy is safe but taking that 250 on a trip is serious stuff and hard work, especially when flying from the US. By the way, I have yet to mount the 100-200. And I miss my 30. Should have brought the 30. Love the 30. And I miss the mighty 23. But 23 is covered well by the 20-35 (as is the 30). But I like having that 30 on the cameras and walking around with it. And it gives me another half stop for in churches. Believe it or not, that half stop matter with GFX (in my opinion) when I'm shooting hand-held in a beautiful Roman Basilica.

Thanks for everyone for your input.

You perfectly right. My mistake in fact I don't own the 50mm. I was thinking of the 63mm.

Would a grad ND or exposure blending help with those tricky skies?

Actually, what would work with those hazed-out bald and flat desert skies would be sky replace, but I absolutely refuse to do it. It is so easy to do now that I'm not sure I trust any dramatic sky I see in someone's landscape. With the new upcoming AI tools, we will be able to replace skies instantly without worrying about masks, blending or artificial-looking borders.
But then again, AI will probably replace most landscapes and scenic shots (like I do) anyway because AI will produce better images than any of us can make, and it will probably use my tens of thousands of high-res shots that are free for the taking as a base! LOL.

Well if you loose any photographs you can probably do a better job describing the shot to AI so it can go out and find the shot and recreate it for you even better then before.

Will post mediocre dog photo advert came across at gas station in weekly photos. It is sort of a homage to the death of photography. Do hope this is not the wave of future but suspect you are correct.

I always take my 110mm with me. The tight frame is good for closeups and the F2 renders them nicely when needed. 250mm is too big :(

I travel extensively for photography and use the same equipment in New York, Boston, London Barcelona, Rome, Paris........... You shouldn't need to change anything from what you normally do, just because you're going to a new city. Have fun as traveling in Italy in May is much more comfortable now than summer.

Thanks....but well....It's the first time I went to a city. Before I was always in vacation inside a car, so the weight was never a problem, I can carry my old camera (D850) + a lots of lenses + tripod + filter + etc.. Sometime I go to the nearest big city for a day walk but in that case I will just carry one lense (most of the time my 45mm).
