Last summer, I spent some time in the white mountains and just happened upon a roadside patch of firecracker penstemon where rufous hummingbirds were feeding.

Fading light and too short of a lens. Either Anna's or rufous (Seattle, late March)

I believe this is an Anna's hummingbird (please correct if wrong). I see them around the Guadalupe River in San Jose, CA.

It is, and a beautiful male Anna. Tact sharp on the eye and nice to see in its natural environment, rather than a staged feeder shot!

Here's another shot of the same guy, from the rear. It's not quite sharp but I'm still pretty happy with it.
