Let's talk about M and RF-S systems...

I'm afraid if it is true. The slew of shortened range dim lenses for RF format is alarming. Maybe 800mm piece would get halfway pass, but not the rest. Not want to be bitter about that, but here is your 12-20mm f/5.6-f/8 UW... 😂
They are doing everything to hate RF.

I see it like keg.
After a short trial period with RP I am done with FF and perhaps, even all system cameras, too much expense just for fun.
I am taking pictures for pleasure not for profit and, I must not have the ultimate possible IQ.
The killer argument for the R-system is the lack of any 3rd party lenses in AF without adapter.

Right now I am quite happy with my 1" sensor gear, although the M6 II and its lenses achieve higher IQ.
The biggest issue for me seems to be convenience and ease of use.
This is the reason why I now take my Sony cameras on air travel and leave the Ms behind.
One thing that hits me each time I take out my M bag is, that I am bothered and troubled by lenses choices and changes, something which I enjoyed far more in the past. May be I am getting too old?
Anyway, most likely I will not ever again buy into a new system camera. I would be very happy if Sony brings a successor for the RX10 IV and RX 100 VII within the next years. Until then I may continue to use my M stuff on certain occasions.
Also, I am having a good look at the smartphone market and who knows, in 1 or 2 years, I may buy a top line smartphone that covers wide to moderate tele with good IQ.
Right now I am not completely sold on this, because I see a big limitation in the fact that the SD card expansion to use RAW is not given. YMMV.

I don't know. I'm still using mainly EF and EF-S lenses with M and M6 (some lenses are even from film times). I understand that Canon wants to sell as much new lenses and new system as possible, but having allready a good selection of lenses doesn't appeal to switch... I wish they put some more effort to M line...

The M line is going away, and Canon, while not saying so much, is clearly abandoning it.

I shoot with R and M cameras, crop and full frame. When I first got the M6II, it quickly replaced my 7DII as my action camera, because it's so fast, and the AF is really good. It looked a bit strange with the EF 70-200 F28L IS II attached with adapter (I always used the EVF for that), but it performed even better than the 7DII did with that lens. Now that I have the R7 and R6II, those two cameras are my action cameras. The performance and AF is simply amazing. The M6II is still my take-everywhere and travel camera, with a bunch of EF-M lenses. For pure fun, the M6II with 22 pancake is hard to beat, and the M6II with Sigma 56 F1.4 is pretty much my favorite informal indoor portrait combination. Even though Canon may not be developing the M system anymore, it still works just fine for me. I have no inclination to get a smaller RF-S camera. The R7 is for action and wildlife. It's quite a bit smaller and lighter than the 7DII, but it's still huge compared with the M6II.

That just about echoes what I'm doing these days except it's the 100-400mm L ii that hangs on the front of my R7.

I have a really great supply of M lenses and bodies so it is most unlikely I will be interested in dumping a load of $$$$ for a larger mount. Not enough bang for the buck like there is with M gear and there probably never will be.Better AF on some animal's eye isn't a big enough pull for me. Maybe AI will be smart enough to develop a modular camera someday. One where you can easily swap out component modules for different functionality not unlike computers. I think I'll pick up a new digic "Y" mod or a new improved sensor mod to slap in my camera today.Upgrade hardware modules instead of whole new cameras. plug and play of course.Until then I'll just use my M stuff. Probably be using it when R gear is being discontinued or the Tesla phone puts the big 3 out of business. Just a thought--nothing more than something to post in this new place so it doesn't appear vacant.

Canon's interest seems to be focused on either really expensive stuff or mediocre slow lenses.

The L mount is nice and open and I kind of like the Panasonic M43 I own, so I guess L mount could be one destination.

I got a G7 X Mark II late last year and I can totally see it supplementing my Ms and Rs, even to a considerable degree.
