I've noticed that some threads that started out as sort of a FAQ and then turned into debates were split into two threads; a locked one with the FAQ and a few replies, and one for continued discussion/debate. In one case I quickly found the part that was still open, but all the posts there were marked unread, which made me read through pages again. In other cases, I still haven't found the unlocked part. Will there be a way in the future to split a thread, lock half of it, and have people automatically subscribed to the open discussion part if they were subscribed to the original, and for the site to remember "read" posts?

I'm not sure on that. I will ask, but it's a lot of work. We would need to know who has read the thread and who hasn't and duplicate that where we move it. It may be easy, but I doubt it.

Now we have a decent 'mark thread read', you may be able to do it yourself and just go to the end to catch up on the few posts that you might have missed.

I think the solution is probably to split it the other way, that is move the old thread to the 'discussion' forum, create a new thread on BQ and move (or copy) the first few posts to it. I'll try it that way when it becomes necessary. I think it's a self-solving problem, because people seem to be starting 'discussion' types of thread on BQD now.
