Texas snail shell. Unlike most things in Texas, snails around here are small - this one about 3/4" front to back.

Taken long ago - methodology forgotten.

Just to get the ball rolling, a little trial to see how far I could push the F stops. This is the 50G.

    Sorry, what is a "50G"?

    I'd assume a Sony 50 mm G lens.

Exif LensModel tag says "FE 50mm F2.5 G" so I guess it got shortened down somehow.

    and, you'd be right.
Well worth a Google and a read, to see where Sony has taken small lenses with modest apertures.

300, eh ? Whose software did you punish to do the stack ?
(Please say Affinity, C1 already takes all my pocket change.)

    Ron

Zerene took about 30 mins to stack , my images are not cropped or very little just for composition, i do compress them so you dont have to open a 30meg file and i find the small files show no detail loss to the original.

I take it closeups are allowed, so here goes. A small white flower on a (hot) chili plant fluorescing under UV light.

This one (slightly front focused 😐) was already on its last flights: at this time of the year, they are losing their luster and vitality, and it is easier to approach them. I suppose that with the recent cold waves that we have experienced, we will have to wait until next season to see them again in their adult state...

Hello Ron, at least the coffee works for you 😄
In my camera 8mm is equivalent to 35mm in ff. It is the focal length that gives me the greatest magnification and the one I have by default in the custom position of the camera when I am hunting for bugs...

    Gotcha.
Must do review of my pile one day, I'm sure one of them must have smallish minimum focussing distance.
(Funnily enough it could be a 35 too, the old Sony DT 35/1.8 is 230mm; it did a half-decent flower.)

That's a great grab considering the shallow DOF.
How does the cam select focus ?
I take it that it doesn't have bug eye mode ?
