Are still more magic drainpipe users around? (the Canon EF 80-200 F2.8L)
Still do use mine from time to time, for an older piece of metal with glass it does still deliver very nice results
Mine is a UH (11-1993) date code and in a very nice condition

Nice image. I once had that lens. I remember it rendering wonderfully...but wide open it was too soft, and the edges were too soft even stopped down a bit. It did provide good bokeh though, and it was contrasty, punchy colors too. It was a good lens, but in comparison to the later 70-200's I no longer consider it in mythological or cultic terms. It was heavy too, with lots of metal, which makes me think it would not survive as well as newer lenses if dropped. I wonder if it can handle 45mp or more...
One would do better with the replacement Canon EF 70-200L f2.8's I/II/III.
Also own an EF 70-200L F2.8L USM mk II, and it does have a lot advantages like weathersealing, AF performance for instance, I still like this 30 year old Magic Drainpipe 😉
I'm thinking of changing my 70-200/4 for this 80-200/2.8
Problem is, I most often use it for landscapes so the only thing I would gain is weight. Anyway I already got the other dreampipe, the 28-80 2.8-4L which is lovely.
