Heres what happened the other day. my 4 yold laptop keyboard started playing up and i couldnt remap the keys so i had to buy a new laptop. i only use it when im away in my caravan and didnt want an expensive machine just mid range. so a HP was on sale for $600 down from $1100. 8 gig ram 512 memory and I5 processor. i thought you beauty good specks so i took it home site un seen from the shop as they didnt have it on display. got home fired it up after 2 hours of self configuration. and the screen was terrible ,i mean unusable i couldnt calibrate the screen at all. so after some extensive research on the net the screen was only 6 bit 45% rgb WTF 🤔 i viewed a bird image and the branches of a tree where black not brown, even the default screen saver was banding 🤣 i took the laptop back and complained and the sales guy said every computer under 1k has 6 bit screens now in that price range ,i nearly fell over. so he recommended a beautiful little acer with oled 2.8k screen 16 gig ram 512 ssd and the latest ultra 5 processor. it was on special for $900 down from $1700 its a bit over the top for my needs but its nice and fast now i discovered by default that the whole system wants to back up to my one drive. only took me 2 days to figure it out as my old laptop was way faster 😂😁

I have a $30 pair of shoes for you if you want? Half price at $30 - down from the $60 I had them advertised for just long enough to meet the legal requirements for "normal price".

Sorry, but from your OP it doesn't sound like you think the laptop you bought was worth $1100. Perhaps that is where the scam is, in making you believe that it was. So take a laptop, double the price then advertise it at 50% off. It was very common practice so in this country a law was brought in that to say something was on sale then it actually has to be advertised at the full price for a set period of time. Sale price is a marketing gimmick as well.

?? That's kinda the point, to make you think you're getting a bargain, but to comply with the law they have to be advertised at the full price somewhere for a period of time. So you get these products that alternate between two prices regularly. The never ending sofa/furniture sales are a good example of this. Also I was looking at a new telly and find it odd that the "discounted" price seems to be the standard price everywhere, the only place you find them at the RRP is the manufacturers website. People tend to look at the full price and assume that's "what it's really worth" whereas it's often exaggerated to make the sale price look attractive.
