Yeah, but is it really needed? Lenses can be discussed in any of the camera subforums just as easily and most discussions in the Nikon slr lens forum usually related to one of the bodies anyway. If you look back at the "old place", not every brand had a separate lens forum anyway.
It's probably better to let the structure settle and see where the "traffic" goes in each forum - if there's a need to break forums up like that, I'm sure the team will oblige.
I know what you mean. But realistically, that comes down to more of a moderation issue as far as where a given question settles. The tough thing about Nikon F mounts is that they can be used in both DX and FX so sometimes it comes down to a crap shoot where a question would go. After all, if you have both a DX and a FX body and had a lens question, which forum would you put the question in? In the old place, many people would put the question in BOTH forums creating two separate threads for the same question which isn't ideal.
They can also be used on N1 cameras! I do see your point though. Maybe each camera brand should have a sub forum, for instance: Nikon Lenses, Canon Lenses, Sony lenses etc.
There's a 300mm PF thread going on in FX forum right now with people shooting FX, Z, and someone with an N1.
As for sub-forums, this might be too much of a suggestion but how about a subforum for each popular mount type? Most manufacturers will still only have ONE lens subforum but for Nikon because they have two popular lens mounts - F and Z - two subs would be needed.
It does seem ofd that there is Canon lens talk but not for Nikon, Sony or m43 etc.
Seems like Z mount lenses were discussed on the Z forum and N1 on the Nikon 1 Forum.
The Nikon lens talk forum had just become F/FX/DX mount and even then I saw little traffic there and a crossover with Third party lens talk ( which also was getting few posts recently )
I suppose there is sense in discussing the Nikkors in the respective dx and fx forums but then again people use these lenses on Z and Nikon 1 as well.
Were I to post I would tend to do so in the respective Z/N1/DX/FX forums but also any third party lenses in those forums - where there were compatibility issues soecific to Nikon arising
Or maybe here?? is Nikon general.. an appropriate place for lenses that “cross boundaries” between mounts

Yep. I'm missing a Nikon Lens Talk forum as well. Especially since I have lenses from all the F mount series. A, K, AI, AIS, AIP, AF, AFD, AFS....and used them on all sorts of Nikon bodies - even on Canon bodies. And would use them on a Z at some point.
I was just in a thread elsewhere regarding the various F mount 105mm lenses which really belongs in the Nikon Lens Talk forum - except there isn't one.
So, which Nikon forum shall I discuss using my 105 Bellows Lens on a PB-4 with PS-4 as a film scanner? The FX forum because I use it on a Df? The Kodak SLR Talk forum because I use it on a DCS760c? The DX forum because it was used on a D1? The Canon forum because I used it on a 1Ds? What about using it on an eventual Z, maybe a Z8 at some point (if there is a Z8 at some point and it turns out to be the 60 MP rumor)?
It doesn't fit any camera body forum because it transcends bodies and has done so since the F2 it came to me with. ;)
On thing though. I think it should be a general Nikon Lens Talk forum and not limited to SLRs. Put all the lenses in one bag.
IMHO, Nikon General would be for non-specific Nikon discussions like speculation about Nikon's future or servicing going up or downhill. Heck, Nikon accessories like flashes and the like could be thrown here as the volume of post aren't great for those types of things.
However, lenses is a major category with a lot of cross-talk between DX/FX/film and via adapters. The lenses sub-forum doesn't need to be restricted to just Nikon branded lenses but could include 3rd party ones with the same mount.
