I disagree with practically everyone.
I prefer more moderation over spam and personal attacks. If I become uncivil, delete the post. I prefer that anyway. The purpose of the board is to discuss photography. Of course don’t delete opinions you disagree with but uncivil comments, such as quoting Ken Rockwell as a knowledgeable source, should not be tolerated.
This is the case with all discussions. The threads been up long enough now to gather peoples' opinions. What I'll do now is draft a policy based on what people have said, put it up for a short while for comments and amendments and then if it meets acceptance, if not approval, we can adopt it. There's no point trying to make decisions unless there is a hard and fast proposition.

I didn't suggest you could. I'm certainly not suggesting I would take them to court over mental health issues over shutting down DPR. I was just piggybacking off Bobn2's post. But I am surprised in trigger happy litigation USA (and Canada to a lesser extent) that someone didn't give it a shot.

I know Rockwell is overbearing and annoying but his library of lens reviews is very useful. Not so much his opinions, but his very detailed descriptions. You can learn a lot about unfamiliar gear from his articles. Just ignore his pronouncements.

Trying to earn something is not a problem, advertising (even own service) on PP forum may be.
I merely wanted to know about people's opinions - should such threads to be moved to some other forum (we have 'Items for sale', but this is more for equipment) or just ignored. Looks like 'ignored' wins.

I was also clobbered by Mako2011 in the days prior to the "so called" deadline. I did get back on.
I don't think all of the DPR moderators were bad - I've moderated a private, on-line customer discussion forum and it's no fun.
FWIW I think some moderation is expected but it really needs to be invisible.
To date I've spent more time at one of the other sites however it seems to be too involved with the business of being a site rather than just being one.
Right now, you have threads which are toxic messes. As AlanSh said, they are an advertisement for why not to use this site.
You need to shut them down, and maybe ban some folk. Just delete the threads. There are bits of worthwhile stuff in there, but it's not worth sifting through the sith.
You might want to investigate trolls a bit. They might be competitors.
This problem is a limiting factor, and a existential factor for this site.
Well, everyone seems to have calmed down apart from one little piggie. I'll discuss this with Bob provately.
