I've been working on a transport case for my 5x4 monorails & it is now nearing completion

I guess I'm running out of excuses for not using it properly! - To date it's nearly all been ground glass shots like this one:

    Nice 👍🏻

A far cry from the pocket camera! 😂

How many 5x4 cameras do you have?

No sadly even the film holders are too big for most pockets. At least the case has built in wheels so I might escape a hernia.

Currently I have three 5x4 cameras, I need to sell off the D45e as the mono rail is not compatible with the other two. (I actually brought it for the lenses it was bundled with)

And you are equipped to develop the 4X5

I dreamed when I was young of being able to have such a format in my hands. 😍

I don't have a darkroom, or fancy Jobo system, but I do now have an old Dallan daylight tank that can process up to 12 sheets of 5x4.
When I was young I got paid to use a monster artwork copying camera, so my dreams were more conventional (Cars, Girls, Flying etc).
I don't remember ever doing prints bigger than A4, but the camera could certain manage quite a bit bigger.

    Hi,

I know that tune; buying a camera because of the lenses it came with. A time honored tradition.

I used to want a Speed Graphic but never did get one. Once I moved to digital back in 1999, that desire subsided.

It was also the reason for my buying my remaining LF camera (a quarter plate ruby reflex the I've come to like & will be keeping) all my medium format bodies & a good half of my 35mm. I just need to master passing the spare bodies on.

A speed graphic would be nice, but the affordable ones seem to all be in the USA. Postage to the UK rules them out for me.

Impressive case and cameras. Looks like it holds two cameras? Do you take both when shooting? Don't know of many shooters needing a backup 4x5.
I have baby, 4x5, and a 5x7 slr Graflex. Would like to shoot the 5x7 one day, if I can figure out how. It doesn't have standard shutter speeds. Speed is set by combination of slit size and tension.
    Thanks for sharing,

It's true a back up 5x4 isn't required, but with the range of lenses I may want to play with a good variation in rail lengths will be needed, along with both sets of bellows (I might even want a third sometimes for close ups with my 480mm?). There may well be times when I use for our local photography workshop, when having multiple cameras will be an real advantage.

I originally started a case for just one, but then I was remined of the old explorer case and have allowed myself to get carried away.

Due to the built in wheels the fully the loaded case is easier to move around than my heavy duty tripod.

    Hi,

Yeah. But about the size of the original 1946 Car Phones, though.

Actually, the Car Phones came along just prior to WWII but, like many other things at that time, were back burnered tor the duration. It was the immediate post war need for National Security and the President's control over atomic weapons that saw the installation of the base stations in cities all across America. Once those were in place, it was natural for the telephone companies to promote the systems to the public.

No smarts in those phones, though. Or cameras.
