    1998

1998 was the year when digital photography becomes very interesting for amateur photographers.

    Nikon CoolPix 900 Sample Image
    www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/C900/ORTNER1.HTM

When I saw this photo and another that I can no longer find on the net.
On my Power Mac 7200/120 MHz HD 1.2GB + Applevision 17"

The quality seemed good enough to spend $1,200.00 CAD for a digital camera with a 4MB card
and an additional $180.00 CAD for a 10MB compact flash.

That's a great series - thanks so much. I don't want to interrupt somewhere in it the middle.
Looking forward when/if my first digital (March 1998) - the Olympus Camedia 820 L will arrive.
It's amazing to watch a new technology to develop until it's mature or close to being mature.

Your History of Digital Compacts is a wonderful starter for this site.

    Thanks a lot Marc :)

No, on the contrary, you do well to mention it. It's the right time!
Here I only make an overview of my collection, an overview of the first digital cameras.
With the cameras which for me were important (very personal decision)
Just to situate you, I have more than 255 cameras listed between 1991 and 1998

I have in my possession 27 of the first 30 compact cameras from 1991 to July 1996
As an example, I have the first two Casio QV-10 and 10A, but the multiplication of QV-30, QV-100, and QV-300 from 1996 becomes less interesting for me.

Your Olympus Camedia 820 L, is the fifth camera released under the Olympus brand.
I have the first two, and once again the C401L, C820L, C410L, C840L, etc, become less interesting.

And from 1999 came the arrival of Nikon and Canon DSLRs
I will start another thread soon with the history of DSLR/ML from 1991 to today.

In the meantime I still have some beautiful specimens... to follow ;)

    Thank you! 👍🏻
