I recently had a free day to sit out in the yard with my relatively new 200-500 lens attached to either my Z50 or V2. I will confine my photos here to the V2 but will share that this lens on the Z50 does not provide images significantly better than what I can achieve with a V1/V2 with my 70-300 DX VR APS-C, as long as ISO is kept fairly low. I have always had a plethora of House Sparrows in the yard but this season I seem to have many White Crowned Sparrows visiting. here are a few shots with the V2/200-500.

Just lovely shots, great to see how well the 200-500 works on the V2! having a 1350mm equivalent is just amazing!! :) I would also love to see the shots you've taken with the Z50 too :) I've recently added a Zfc to my kit, which I adore, but still hasn't by any means replaced my Nikon 1 kit. I'm not sure anything will compare to the portability of N1, and image quality at higher ISOs is another world now with the current noise reduction abilities of programs like DXO and the latest Lightroom AI noise reduction, which I'm very impressed with so far.

    Wow! Very nice shots, Paul!.
The 200-500 is doing fairly well coupled with the V2.
These pictures are noise free. Did you shoot raw and cleaned them up in post, or are they jpegs?
I think the V2 or the V3 are the best N1 cameras for this kind of photography.
    All. the best

I am pleasantly surprised by the results with the V2 and the 200-500, especially at full zoom. I will have to work with the Z50 some more to see what I can get out of it, I don’t really have anything good enough to share yet.

Nice shot, Paul. The 200-500 is a great lens works well on any V body. I keep my 200-500 mounted on a tripod in the house with either. V2 r V3 mounted so I can use it quickly when any of the small birds show up.

I don't know what happened as I had replied to your post 2 days ago, but evidently I managed to muck that up as I can't find it!

I was seated in a chair and had the lens on a monopod which made for a steadier aim. This effective focal length is new to me and even though I have a good tripod as well as the monopod, I rarely use them because of the extra hassle. Also my yard is fairly large and birds congregate in many different areas so the monopod is my best compromise for quickly shifting aim.
