I thought I will start the obligatory Nikkor 58mm f1.4 thread here :-)

    For inspiration, look at:

    www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1253369?year=2017 - 251 pages
    www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1253369 - 100 pages

To view pages in older thread you need to suffix with '?year=2017'

Maybe you´ll come back here when you find out or it bites you. =) ( Hint: It takes your money and causes troubles with your spouse)

    Google says it might be:

    Legally Binding Agreement
    Logical Block Adressing
    Load Balancing Advisor
    Live Blood Assessment
    Licensed Behavior Analyst
    Lower Body Adiposity
    Lieutenant's Benevolent Association

    So now, I'm wondering too.

I always heard it described as Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS.) It's not limited to just lenses.

And I was accredited with being the person who coined the acronym LBA on the DPR Pentax SLR Forum back in November, 2004. I was awarded with the official monicker by Ned Bunnell and Pentax released a sticker for those afflicted. Ned Bunnell was the former president of Pentax Ricoh Imaging Americas.

Referenced here by Ned Bunnell on his blog spot in 2008. That is me with my Pentax camera next to the sticker on the rear window.

Like many, I still suffer the "affliction" of LBA - Lens Buyers Addiction. 😁

Is this still worth having when the 50 a 1.2Z is in house? I ask as there is a second hand one at a decent price and I am debating about it.
I do have also the 1.8Z (which I plan to sell) and a summicron 50/2.

If you can afford it then the 50mm f1.2Z is probably the better choice especially if you have a high resolution Z camera. I don't have one so I can't compare with the 58mm.

IMO, yes. I think the 50 f1.2S is stunning in all aspects. However, it is big, heavy and costly and you must weight those issues up before buying.

I already have the 1.2m my question is more like if getting a second hand 58 makes sense or is pure GAS

It sounds like you don’t need it since you already have the 1.2z

    Hi,

I, too, have never heard of Lens Buying Addiction.

I have, however, heard of Lens Acquisition Disorder and Lens Acquisition Syndrome.

Everything is more properly referred as an AD or an AS. Gear covers it all. As in GAS. ;)

And, I have had it. A lot. Often. Many times. The latest is, once again, medium format gear.

Whoa, all those samples at the FM links are giving me a better sense of the focal length. Hmmmm, perhaps the all-black Zfc with the 40mm f2 SE muffin (60mm equ), would be very nice indeed . . . (Not exactly the point of this thread, but not too far off the runway, one hopes.)

For years I have recommended that the 58mm f1.4 should be mounted on an APS-C body and used as a portrait lens. Worked very well on my D500 and was a small, light, and effective package.
