The Nikon CoolScan 9000 is currently selling for ~£3000, the 8000 for about half that. The only difference I’m aware of is that the 9000 is 16bit and the 8000 is 14bit. What other things explain the 50% price difference ?

Good to see you here. You were always helpful to many.
I have the 9000 but I don't remember the difference between the two.
I'm sure you will search out the info you need. I will say the 9000 is a wonderful scanner.
I'm sure the 8000 is too. I do prefer Nikon Scan software but I use VueScan now because it won't run on newer Macs.
However I still use Nikon Scan on an old Mac at times. Too bad VueScan doesn't have ICE.
My 120 tray has developed a crack which is a drag but I plan on finding a glass tray at some point. Best of luck.
Thanks. I’ve seen the 9000 and it looks very good, but at least in the UK there’s a big difference in price to the 8000. I’ve read that there were some issues with the 8000 but they went away if you used VueScan. I’ve never been successful in getting NikonScan working with my CoolScan V anyway, so VueScan’s not a problem.

Thanks. I’ve seen that mentioned elsewhere but I don’t use Facebook. I suppose it might be worth setting up an account just for these types of things though…
