The Nikon D810, surely one of the most accomplished DSLRs available
And can be found today at a much more affordable price than the D850.
What's more, it has a flash, which makes it so easy to control my studio flashes.

Here are the eleven comparisons I made with my Nikon D810

Maoby... I've always enjoyed and appreciated your side-by-side comparisons (on DPR). Well done! I'm still looking for a place to call home (photo-wise). Maybe it might be good here? Thanks for posting. I really like my D810 (I've had it since November 2018).

That's one point of view. I have a few cameras. I gave my son the D810 because I wasn't using it and I though he could make good use of it.

The D810 was my first high resolution FF camera. I bought it second hand, and it had been heavily used. I made some of my favourite photographs with it.

I only sold it because I treated myself to a brand new D850, which is slightly better, but not so much as it is often said.

Your D810 and D200 comparisons are well done and much appreciated. Both reminded me that, in today's world, image quality wise there is little difference. For most of us "upgrading" is the result of GAS or improvement in specialty areas such as video.

    Thank you very much.
New-generation cameras bring us new possibilities and ease of use.
I like my little X-T5 for its lightness and retro look. But the new possibilities of the Nikon Z9 with its update (Ver.4.00) looks very promising for the future. The price is a bit of a deterrent for me 😄

I shot the D810 from 2014 till 2021. It was a Decent Camera, it had to go back to Nikon for some Recall. My only beef with the D810 was, the Jpg Engine always did a Smear Job on Flesh Tones in Low Light in higher ISOs. The NEF files were sharp and the Colour good, but not the jpgs. The D800 and the D850 weren't any better on flesh tones. My D200 is still my Camera for Skin Tones, too bad there is no way to set Picture Controls in Camera or in the App, to make the newer jpgs look like those from a D200, colour/contrast/claritywise. Might have something to do with the D200 using a CCD and the others CMOS. In 2021, I stupidly traded it in on D850, and very quickly regretted that.

Since no two people have the same skin tone, it is very difficult to define a standard flesh color. ;)

I currently have three Nikon digital cameras: D800e. Z-7, Z9. Of those three, I consider the D800e the best for flash photography. It has a built-in flash unit the provides the most flash versatility of all cameras I have used to date. This is fortunate because the D800e is stuck on a 1/500 shutter speed except when in the flash mode where it conforms to flash settings.

So, I dedicate to events that require flash. Were I to acquire another body, it would be a D810.

    Good luck out there,

    Dick Frederick
