That post was very well put indeed and highlights the nonsensical direction this thread has taken. Must have taken some time, care and attention. I was less happy about the comment you made on my post at the end, but I'll take it. I chose to get down and dirty so by default makes me a co-conspirator. I would argue on the other hand that it was very much addressing the actual subject matter that has ended up dominating the last part of this thread even though it did not "directly" relate to photography depending on your point of view.

I wasn't really referring to your contributions so much as the nature of these threads in general over the last 4 years, so no worries there. Specifically to the post you are referring to, you did supply a lot of what appears to factual detail, largely to an audience that is least likely to bother fact checking it. Part of what Bob is referring to I believe is that is a level of detail where the audience doesn't really appreciate it. We are in the Nikon Z forum talking about Nikon AF, so a detailed list of every Sony firmware update for a particular model edges on overkill. You can simply say Sony updated 6 times to Nikons 2 and be done with it.

I am kind of amazed how Nikon tech threads and Nikon new product threads eventually turn into Sony threads. Its not just here. And it gets old. Thats all.

All fair comments, all I would say is I only posted as a reply to an existing post that wasn’t accurate. I felt the reply I made required some detail and fact if to be made at all. I tried to balance it with kudos to Nikon too. In other words, if I hadn’t supplied detail in my reply it becomes he said she said etc. So that’s why I took care to provide detail this time.

I’m quite happy to dip out altogether, but then what does that leave? Made up facts are ok? I really don’t know the answer to that 😊

I think a shared a decent way to reply without turning this into too much a Sony thread. I am not sure why you think that level of detail was necessary as the person you were responding to certainly didn't. Anyway, I am not sure I want to analyze responses and details and all that matter. I think I would just rather log off for now. Cheers

I think we all probably need to log off for a while 😊.

Couple points that someone independantly looking at this thread could note -

    1. This is one of the most busiest, most responded to threads in this entire forum that I can see from a quick search.
    2. Why is it Mackiesback seems to think he should be able to dictate the way in which someone should respond? "I think a shared a decent way to reply without turning this into too much a Sony thread. " (see point 3)
    3. I started this thread, so I can speak with some authority on it's intent. As I am a long time nikon user, I wanted to have an open discussion without brand defensiveness of the Z cameras compared to other brands AF including the Z6/7 and Z9, especially as I stated, interested in hearing viewpoints of those that have shot more than just nikon.
    4. Yes my original post was written a certain way but it was my post and I wrote it the way I wanted to write it. I will make zero apologies for that. I have not called anyone a rude name begining with "d" here unlike other posters...
    5. Why does lenshepard get to have the last say with blatently incorrect information because enough is enough and burnimage needs to get supressed because of it?
    6. Just scroll on to another thread if you don't wish to continue in the thread?

Dare I say it, cause this is the internet, and this new site has a more relaxed view on moderation apparently which in turn probably allows more law-of-the-jungle moderation. We'll see how it works out in the long run.

I'll be checking in from time to time to see how many times you say "au revoir" Some of us have a side bet going on it.

You can have warm and cuddly made up facts. Or real facts. Adjust to taste for the audience ;-)

It seems some - perhaps like primeshooter - are relatively unable to post reasonably accurate facts rather than made up facts - and when posting cannot even spell a name right there in front of them!

I haven't read all the posts here, but it's disappointing that the thread has descended into insults. I don't understand why it's not possible to have a civilized discussion about the relative merits of AF systems. Cameras are just consumer products; tools that we use to get the job done. I've always been a Nikon person and I stick with it because I'm used to the way the cameras operate. I don't want the learning curve involved with switching brands. However, I don't really understand the fanboy attitude where people seem to take any criticism of a brand as a personal insult. I guess internet forums lend themselves to extremes, like in this case where we have one set of people saying that the automated tracking features of the Nikon 6/7 AF are just as good as other brands, and another set saying that the AF of these cameras is useless. Neither of these things are true; the truth lies somewhere between them. Is it too much to ask everyone to calm down and see each other's point of view?
On a more positive note, I'm happy to see @BurnImage on this forum. I always liked the images you posted on DPReview and I look forward to seeing more of them!

I really don't care about the number or likes or whatever the system is here given to posting frequency etc etc. You can suggest I do but it is not true. My observation is just fact. This is the most replied to thread on the entire forum (I think). If anything, the point in a forum is to discuss. It's a shame some resort to calling people "di*&" which I have not done (nor you).

You are about 200 posts shy, if you bother to look. Neither thread has the majority of posts addressing the original question, if that was ever the intent. I hope you and TO can vent this all out and we can be done with the 4 year old odyssey. Its getting very very stale. Now that the Z8 has been announced, all your questions about a camera you wont buy will be answered.
