I have a Canon EOS M200. All Canon EOS M cameras besides the M6 II have Electronic First Shutter Curtain. Now am I misunderstanding this? With EFCS you should only hear 1 shutter sound?

When I tested with a shutter speed of 1.6 seconds, there were 2 shutter sounds. One right after the shutter was pressed and then another after the 1.6s exposure. I attached a video clip with the sound here, as Reddit allows easy video uploads.

I have long exposure noise reduction off as that does two exposures, so that isn't the cause. There is no setting to enable or disable Electronic First Shutter Curtain. It should be enabled by default.

Thank you. I tried asking on the EF-M section here and on the other site but didn't get an answer, weirdly, as I know some of the users have a M200.

Thread title has been changed from Is this normal behavior for a mirroless camera with Electronic First Shutter Curtain?.

I don't know the answer for sure, but you you think about the way a mechanical shutter works, it's something like this:

    Release first curtain.
    Release second curtain.
First curtain hits the end stop.
Second curtain hits the end stop.
Both curtains reset in preparation for the next shot.

Well, how many remain if you just delete the first curtain ones?

You’re possibly hearing the iris stop
down to shooting aperture from wide open (for focusing). Try again and see if you hear the same click with the aperture set wide open, or in a continuous focus mode (which often operate at shooting aperture).

Wouldn't that be the same sound as pressing the DOF Preview button? It sounds different. The aperture was set wide open. I tried it at f3.5 (fastest for the lens I have on me right now) and f22. I just tried Continuous AF and still hear it.

When I go into Silent Shooting Mode, the camera is completely silent as expected. But that is unusable as it is fully automatic, no manual exposure (SS or aperture) controls. But the EOS M cameras are suppose to have Electronic First Shutter Curtain in any mode.

In an old thread for an EOS M5, saw someone mention something about shutter charging/cocking. Is that possibly the sound? I found that weird because when I look up videos of other cameras (couldn't find one for a Canon), you don't hear two sounds with electronic first shutter curtain enabled. Hence my confusion.

Edit: It was confirmed in the EF-M section that is normal behavior. Thank you to everyone that responded.
