I have been going through some old pictures, to make up the third and last Blurb book, of the pictures I took whilst hiking along the 00 footpath that runs along the Tosco Emilian Apennines. I also for curiosity I also reprocessed some pictures of Arles and Avignon, taken with a 12MP D300 in 2010. I was surprised what I was able to do with these pictures taken in difficult light, with the 2024 edition of Capture One.

I was also interested to see that I could make sharp pictures without IBIS/VR back then. My D850/Z7, has a bit more dynamic range, but the difference in image quality is pretty slight. The pictures look good on my big screen.

With AI masking and the dodging an burning tool in C1, I was able to make presentable final images, that with the software of the time, would have been far more difficult, if not impossible.

Some great pictures there. I love the colours in the 2nd to last one.

The Nikon D300 and D700 both produced good colour, particularly the D700.

A curious optical illusion from my old eyes. At about 18" away "Arles" looks like "Aries" but when I move closer, about 8", the "l" becomes more clear.

    Nice post-processing, BTW.

I went even further back and looked at some pictures I made of the Monastery of Santes Creus, in Catalonia that I made on the back of a work trip ,with my D70. Unfortunately, it was when I was very new to digital photography, and shot a lot of the pictures on this trip in JPEG. 6Mp does not hold up well to enlargement and lacks pixel peeping detail.

I also saw the Roman Aqueduct in Tarragona. I also walked across it. It did not have the heightened and restored parapet at the time.

The D70 is not a camera that I would want to use again. It is difficult to get some of the colour right on these old shots.
