OM5 vs OMD10IV for street and people mainly

I have decided to sell my EM1.3 and take advantage of the main advantage of m43, being small and capable and using it mainly for people, street, some macro and maybe some traveling. I am bit torn between the OM5 and OMD10IV. The OM5 is of course the better camera, but is almost double the price even used vs the M10IV and has an articulating screen vs the simpler tilt of the M10. I don't care that much about CAF, but will miss the Starry AF, the live ND and maybe the In camera stacking features. What do you think?

I've been looking at the OM5 as well. Even with DPReview closing down it seems I can't escape GAS. I'm going to wait out the rest of the year as between now and then there will be at least one promotion. I'm also curious to see if there will be anything new from Panasonic in the small rangefinder format or if there will be a new PEN F MKII.

The E-M5iii and the OM-5 have more features (but only matter if you use them) than the E-M10iv. The size and battery life differences aren't meaningful IMHO. My only reasons to buy the 10iv would be cost and if the tilt screen was really important.

I have an E-M5 III (same body as OM-5) and recently bought an E-M1 III from a friend. The size & weight difference is not that great and, for me, wouldn't warrant the hassle and financial loss or gain involved in switching from an E-M1 III to an OM-5 - all for the loss of some functionality..

I wouldn't consider a non weather-sealed body like the E-M10 series as it rains a lot where I live, and rain can add good atmosphere to people photography.

If you live in Southern California or somewhere else where precipitation is illegal that may not be a concern for you.

I have had very very good experiences with the m10-4, both day and evening shots.

I Agree about lack waterproofing ( I live in so. Calif so not a factor) if that's a consideration though. The flip up/down screen is important to me for crowd pics, ibis very close to other Olys so not much a difference between $$$ vs $ spent for that.

Cost for near new or barely used m10-4 amazing for what features it does have. I have about a dozen dslr's to choose from and now this is my grab and go camera most of the time. Absolutely LOVE The ply zuiko small lens sizes compared to nikon F series!!!!

The Om5 I is more advanced but it's still a just another metal box/lens/recording-medium device that requires a thoughtful and open mind (who's read the manual) to get a lot out of it, be it expensive or cheap or newest or older😊

While I think the OM-5 is a better all-round camera (if the budget permits), I think it is questionable to be "2 times" better than the E-M10 Mark IV for now (due to doubling the cost). I think you should examine if the extra features of OM-5 is important for your main photography purpose (which you stated in your title, "Street and People"). Of course you may want to take into account the amount of time you plan to use your camera. For example, if you plan to use the camera for, say, the next 5 years, then the OM-5 might be more relevant.

I have both the E-M5.3 and the M10.2 and use them both on the street. I like to shoot from lower angles and have found that the tilting LCD is better for that then the E5.3's articulated one … The E5.3 is better in inclement weather, it allows auto ISO when in Manual mode (The OM5 may also I am ignorant about that), and it provides a bit better file if you crop (... not a problem for the M10.4!)… The tilting screen usually wins for me .. but if you're using the camera also for more general photography then the OM5 should be better. I generally use these smaller cameras with smaller prime and zoom lenses and mostly on the street and for larger lenses and more general photography I have the M1.2 …..

I have the 17mm/1.8 which I really like and was thinking of the 20/1.4 although I don't find it small or cheap enough.

I have both the OM-5 and the E-M10 IV. Both are great cameras and the image quality is indistinguishable between them. I mostly use the E-M10 IV for travel when needing to keep things super compact. I generally pair it with the 14-42 EZ and the 40-150 f4-5.6. I also use the Scene Modes a lot that produce really great pics with little thought to the technical side of things......... the in camera pano is kind of fun and does a decent job, once you have a bit of experience with it. Also, the newer C-AF of the E-M10 IV is a big jump up from the previous models even though it is still Contrast Detect only.

My OM-5 is my lightweight alternative to my OM-1 and has replaced my Pen F for candid street and festivals. I use the HHHR quite a bit for low noise night street color and daytime Mono street shooting. Mostly I have it paired with the 12-45 f/4 for the street and the 40-150 f/4 for botanical gardens and other telephoto. I upgraded to it from the E-M5 III and feel the upgrade was worth the money, particularly for the HHHR.
