Thanks to the Mike Johnston's wonderful TOP blog, I discovered the work of the Social Documentary, photographer, Tish Murtha who belonged to that school of photographers who documented the deindustrialization "Up North", in the Thatcher years. Being a working class native of the area she photographed, the work seems to be more heartfelt than a lot of this genre of photography, that was popular back in the eighties.
It was nice to step back in time to when photography seemed to have purpose, compared to the vacuous, inoffensive conceptual photography that seems to dominate photography shows today.
