I have followed this photography blog for years. Mike Johnston is one of the best photography writers on the net. But his Blog seems to be down. I visit most days, and it was not announced, that it would be down.

I knew that Typepad that hosted his Blog was closing, but I hope it is down because he is transferring to a new server ( I was directed to a new dummy site that seems to be in construction).

Photography resources on the net seem to be getting steadily poorer. But his Blog admittedly, seemed to have gone of the boil in recent times, compared to a few few years ago.

Johnston’s TOP, there was a thread on DPR. He’s moved to Patreon.

It is a bit of a grim time for photography resources. I lost track of TOP and DPR, has become a horrible mess to navigate. Even some of the Mods are getting fed up.

Interestingly, in that thread quite a lot of the frequent posters are now declaring their allegiance to the "flat earth" format!

I did not go beyond the front page, as I was skimming.

Interestingly, m43 Talk, where that thread is located, has already lost more than half of the regular posters. Admittedly a percentage of those may not be missed but losing the others means a loss of deep knowledge and experience. Your "frequent posters" are just what's left and not many of them were previous regulars.

[Edit] That thread was created by one of the mods. Apparently they (or at least some of them) aren't happy either. If you can't keep your mods happy what have you done?

    Hi,

Busted it. That's what. It wasn't broken. But they decided to fix it anyway. And now it's pretty much Casters Up..All those involved technical threads on How Things Work can't be followed now. So when someone asks now, we can't just point them to the older threads. We will have to begin all over. Well, maybe not 'we'. I have seriously pared what I follow down to nearly nothing. Just four slow forums.

I've lost track. A while ago I stopped visiting LL before or after Michael Reichman's death. Mike Johnston had his Sunday Morning Photographer in Luminous Landscape for a time but it's been shut down. Photo.net I've not visited for a long time and other sites too.

I never took to Fred Miranda.
