From "All Threads" I can click and go to any "Category"

When I am inside any Category or Subs I cannot CLICK back my way to "Threads" unless I refresh the page.

    Not an issue for me.

( but no idea as well if that happens only on my PC )

Same for me (firefox 113.02 on Windows 10)

Interestingly, "All subcategories" does work after selecting a specific subcategory

Why not just click on 'Threads' at the top of the page?

    AlanSh,

yes, there are lots of ways around it. It's just that "All categories" and "All Subcategories" are inconsistent - the former does not work, the latter does

It's not a deal breaker, but would be nice if it were consistent. Bottom of the priority list to be looked at?

I think that there's a category (oops) of problems which should go on a list of 'fix if you come across the code that causes it' but not worth a hunt. There's a baic issue here that Misago assumed two levels of category, but we're using three. I've found several places where this assumption is made.

And I'd like to have 4 in some places. But that's never going to happen 😉

I'd quite like a category model whereby the category implied more specialisation, but less specialised but related categories would still be visible.

I'm not looking for a workaround that I've already found and posted in the OP..

.. just stating a mishap I did happen to rec... and it was only today.

( I do refresh with the thread button usually, I didn't today )

Having multiple levels of taxonomy is worse solution to a problem of categorizing user content, but whats old is new again, and great silution to the problem was found to have separate extra taxonomies next to categories, eg. tags.

So there would be tags like „Nikon” or „iPhone 14 Pro” and threads could use those tags everywhere.

This is on the roadmap for Misago but its not going to happen soon (new permissions system needs to happen first).

    Hi Rafal,
Of course you are right on a technical level - but a lot of our users don't see it like that. Coming from DPReview, they see a 'forum' as a piece of territory, not as a solution to finding things that interest them. It can lead to some territorial behaviour, but it's what they are used to and they like it. One possibility, when you've done the tag system is to have the ability to have a predefined set of tags that a user can select, which will define their group in the way that forums did. They choose a virtual forum (a set of tags) and with that selected they only see threads related to that set of tags, and if they start a thread, it's automatically tagged so.
Now I've said this, I think it would be a good way of providing for people with common interests to group together, possibly better than categories. Of course, some would want anti-tags as well 😀

Yes, available tags must be defined by forum admin, otherwise you end with multiple tags that are same thing, but one user typed nikon, other used nikon_camera and even other did nicon. I am thinking that by default users will be free to use all tags, but admin will be able to exclude tags from selected categories if they wish to. This requires further study.

As for auto-tagging, I think plugin system could be there to fill in missing tags based on posted threads contents. Seems much better tyan trying to come up with something that would work for all sites.
