I just remembered that in my limited macro creation there was a (perhaps esoteric) VBA function that was not available - not sure how or whether I got around that. But most of them had been implemented.
The new DPR came up with emails enabled for every little thing. So the first thing I had to do was turn them all off. They were all off on the old site, so that is one thing that didn't carry over.
There are quite a few forums I was active in, which I shall no longer be thanks to Flat View Only, and each of those threads was sending me emails. Which I don't need.
It takes time to adjust to a new layout, for your brain to know how to scan the content and see "what is what" on the page. My immediate experience is that the new layout is like doing Sudoku puzzles that are touching each other with no space between them, but I know that in a couple of weeks, I won't see it that way.
I wonder how much of it is debug code, but opening a single tab of DPR forums was using anywhere from 450MB to 1.1GB! Something is not right there, although the ability to save and reload drafts decreases the need to have several tabs open as you work on replies. With the old DPR forums, you could copy the 8-digit ID of the post you are replaying to and put it in the top of an edit in simple text mode, and paste into a text editor, but the "draft" concept makes that unnecessary.
So far, I have ID'd four forums to watch. My original Kodak SLR one and the Nikon FX DSLR one. Both of which we split off of the Pro Digital Talk forum long ago. Originally, all the Kodak models and the Nikon D1 were in the Pro forum as they were Pro level equipment. However, pro shooters were wanting to talk about Pro workings vs Pro equipment. So we took a lot of time and moved things into then-new forums
Yes, the D1 makes no sense as FX becasue it isn't. The original name was Nikon DSLR Talk, but later, once they had FX gear, it gor renamed. ;)
I have one Nikon left I use, the Df, and so I will continue on there but it really gets little traffic regarding anything. And, I still have my D1H as well, which gets zero use. I also will follow the Nikon SLR Lens Talk forum and it also has low traffic (unless they make it also for Z mount lens talk, then I'll likely abandon it).
And the fourth is the Medium Format Talk forum. That one for my Pentax 645 and Fujifilm GFX gear.
The forum I will miss is the Science and Technology forum. But, I can't see being able to follow the discussions there sans Threaded View. Every subject needs several subthreads and they will blend together like vegetable soup with Flat View.
So with those restrictions in place, so far, so good.
