I'm not sure why people are arguing about the lack of threaded view on DPReview. It's a done deal. Either accept it stop using the forum. And as for moaning over here - I guess it makes you feel better, but no one from DPReview will be looking (or caring).
DPReview is now like most other forums with some nice added features and a wraparound skin which encompasses galleries, reviews etc.
In my case, I cope here mainly by us not having technical discussions. That does make my participation here a small fraction of what it is over there. Or, was. The operative word is now 'was'.
Alan's seems like an excellent proposal to me: all these images are taken at my kitchen table, with the light of a flexo, a small stand, a tripod, some fabric backgrounds (some t-shirts...) and a focus stacking program...
Now we are onto something that would be better served with a subthread rather than interleaved with the original topic. And, it is a very worthwhile subthread.
Jim Kasson, who was initially posting here when this was the DP Revived operation, has had to do exactly this. Switch over to studio work, mostly macro, due to health issues which sees him in a wheelchair most of the time. He has been doing some amazing things with it, posted in the Medium Format forum over on DPR.
It really is something worth doing, even if it means changing a lot of gear.
No flash, no RAW, very basic LED studio lights, a cheap tripod and for the most part very cheap industrial or enlarging lenses. A modern macro lens does make some things easier, but I prefer the slower approach because I feel like I learn more along the way.
Not really, Alan, but thanks for the suggestion. I am disabled and clumsy; I dropped a Sigma SD9 a month or two ago which is now dead, grump. Just can't be bothered apart from technical stuff.
You should give us a demonstration of one of your installations.
This would surely interest several hundred people here, In any case, I would be interested. 😁
Agree.
An "All Things Macro" Forum is a good idea.
This thread is way OT and it needs to be uncluttered as traffic is about to increase I'm guessing, as reality bites over there.
Ron, if you want one of those and will manage it like the other specific topic forums (e.g. landscape, B&W etc.), then I will happily create one for you.
