Just noticed this which I probably wouldn't have seen before the move:

That was May and the camera world had by then run the HDR gamut ( pun intended😒 ) and is more or less over it. Yes, it has it's uses, but it's been decided, automatically burning out people's eyeballs isn't one of them.

Gives them more column inches and will start another flame war, so all good for them.
Be interesting to see which side they eventually settle on, no prizes for guessing.

Personally, (as I always expected) I find the place harder and harder to navigate, and the enjoyment factor of a quick check-in has fallen through the floor.

After auto-logging in today, I responded to someone's post. Then, while still logged in, I tried to edit my response - the Edit button did nothing and a message appeared saying that I had to log in to do anything ... grump.

Closing and re-opening DPR fixed it. I guess they're still in flux over there ...

    Hi,

I am thinking they are in SNAFU-land. Which is better than I expected, which was FUBAR-land. :P

It's not exact science over there.
I noticed some missing text in a couple of my older posts.
Hard to figure how that happened for what was ostensibly a copy/paste operation.
    Perhaps it's a link problem ?

Could be. My problem above occurred when my satellite link was coming and going. That doesn't affect work here.

    Hi,

I decided to have a look at early threads. We originally discussed all DSLRs, in the Y2K time frame, in the Pro Digital Talk forum. That worked well to begin with, but the market became rather prolific and so new forums were created. Kodak, Nikon, Canon, etc. Then several of us undertook the task of moving many threads from Pro Digital Talk over to these new forums.

Today, I went and looked at the Kodak SLR Talk forum and most of those moved threads are no longer there. They are back into the Pro Digital Talk forum. (!) I.also see where all those Nikon D1 threads are also back into the Pro forum. After which I gave up running the Way Back Machine for Mr Peabody.

Now, this isn't going to mean much 25 years later. Unless someone gets old gear and goes to read up on stuff. Then, they won't find much where they think that info ought to be.

Just another reason to pop up some ???? about how in heck that happened when this was (supposed to be) a simple copy process.

Perhaps the old databases had "duplicate" fields where they kept the old forum pointers in an abandoned/ignored one, and the people at Xenforo used the wrong field?

    Hi,

Yeah, that'd do it. Like I mentioned, that particular oops won't really matter these days. Who goes looking for old Nikon D1 threads these days? Much less older stuff. And, for the Kodaks, they could just post a new thread and those of us who still mess with that stuff will answer.

I think I solved my "missing text" mystery.
Looks like those of us who did the right thing by editing the reply titles of their posts, have been rewarded by having them disappear. No wonder they read like gibberish.
Maybe there's a setting in there to fix it, but wading through the (now closed) Issues thread is a hard pass. I'll wait and see.

No setting. The old titles were abandoned. The issue was raised by some who had lost valuable info (SimpleJoy and others from the Adapted Lens forum). It was suggested that the titles be inserted as the first line of the post. One of the GP/DPR lackeys agreed but since then silence...

    Ta for that.
That will probably render 90% of my gibberish to attain totally unreadable status.
No good deed unpunished, eh ?
