    Hi,

What threaded view allows is for additional discussions related to the main topic to be separated into sub topics. This is needed for technical discussions. DPR is foremost an equipment site and the forums foremost for technical discussions.

It used to be flat view only and it was not only a Pain to follow technical topics, it was a Royal Pain. What has been falling onto deaf ears is the very fact that the addition of threaded view was.a solution to a major problem.

But there is zero point in continually pointing this out over there. They have already decided on their course and put the helm over and engaged flank speed. All that is left to do is ride along.

First, I think some of the new folk are marketing types. When I visit gear patrol, I see an online version of a glossy mag. As much as they say they respect threaded view, I think deep down they don't get tech and they don't like the many nested discussions.

Their attitude to the "additional discussions related to the main topic to be separated into sub topics" is that they should be separated into separate threads. I thought it a lame response.

It was a really weird thing to announce the decision and only then ask for discussion.

I am not sure I want to ride along in what is surely going to be a train wreck... I might just fly a drone above and watch it

    Me too.

I will continue to visit and post to their dying Sigma Camera forum until it is truly dead; the Sigma Camera category here died long ago.

its definatly nearly dead over there compared to FM, FM is a pain to visit after a few days to see if anyone has replied to a post as it does not nest the replies together but scatters them throughout the thread. ive said it before it takes away the ability to speed read a thread, i suppose the inventers of flat view do not have the ability or know what even speed reading is 🫣 and the sites that host flat view are concentrating on flooding the pages with advertising.

I wander how you all survived without threaded view on this forum? And it is still going. I think DPR will be alright despite doom and gloom predicted by some.

I have no problem with flat view. Maybe one helpful feature of this site is the flagging of new posts, and the fact that they all come at the end of the thread.

It may also have something to do with the fact that traffic is much lighter here than on DPR.

Ask the question on the C&C thread and see what the responses are. It is doable but painful once there many replies to many posted images.
Also there aren't that many of us here and there aren't many deep discussion threads with lots of replies and sub-topics.

First it is against guidelines of the DPR to go off tropic. If by C&C you mean Samples and Galleries, there is only one long thread. When I am looking at the posted pictures, I am interested to see all of them and also I am interested in the reactions. But unless I read them, I have no idea what is in them. If I participated in the thread, I get notified by flag next to my name about new post and I can look at it. If I did not participated in the thread, but I am interested in the topic I will follow it, but usually after 20 posts or less, they start to repeat each other.

    Hi,

I do not participate much here because there isn't a threaded view. Not even in the threads I have started.

For example, my NC Lighthouse thread. There is quite a bit more I can add. However, I want to do it by Lighthouse. Over time. Moving back and forth between the seven. So I need a way to reply to my initial post, with a subthread for each of the seven. And some other subthreads such as Route 12 and the Graveyard of the Atlantic.

And then we could have discussions on each subtopic and keep everything straight. With flat view, it quickly becomes a jumbled mess. So I just don't bother with it all.
