    Hi,

I am now playing the Monty Python Spam Song in my head, but changing the word Spam to Ads.... :P

On flat v. threaded they said:

One key change in this transition is a move from supporting both threaded and flat views to an enhanced flat view with improved quoting tools.

I go here quite a lot and it's not that bad:

It's not that bad because there isn't a lot of back and forth discussion with multiple sub-threads under the main one... As a photo site, I don't mind the XenForo interface - it would be a killer with threaded view...

its not good neither, imagine every time you go to a thread you have no idea what member posted what comment to what image ,and have to look through 50 images to get to the last image, its 2025 not 1985. this is so backwards.

This site doesn't have threaded view. We seem to cope OK. Selective quoting really helps.

    Hi,

Well, we are no longer an equipment discussion site. It will be extremely difficult to have technical discussions sans Threaded View over there. Where the best way to handle the required subthreads which must occur is to not be quoting all the graphs and charts and such over and over again.

Even here, I cannot arrange my project shots the way I want to sans Threaded View. So, I.just don't post many. That is my way of Coping.

I noticed where the original DPR founder has now chimed in. His take is the change is.a Sad Day.

Ah, well. Perhaps it can continue on, but I won't be doing anywhere near the level of participation of the past 25 years sans Threaded View.

I think we who came over here with the Wednesday C&C bunch are simply "making do" because of our loyalty to this site and its mission, and to each other. And the hope that one day threaded view will again be available. When we had threaded view, our conversations had much more depth, and were easier to follow. We no longer try to hold complex conversations about artistic concepts, because it quickly becomes confusing and tiresome. We are doing more photo sharing than true back and forth conversation about the photos. I miss the depth.

In all honesty, and without wishing to offend anyone:

I have no current membership at DPR, I am just an observer there. I notice that:

Traffic at DPR is much greater than here, whatever people complain about.

There are more varied and interesting threads there than here.

Most of the threads here are populated by small groups of people.

I may be an exception, but I have no need for threaded view. I have no interest in cat pictures or, even though I look at the weekly threads, in C&C or “Edit me an Image”; I dont find B&W, or pictures of ancient cameras much of a turn on. While these are my problems, others can clearly make up their own lists without agreeing with me.

All the above features are surely normal for all photographic sites; but they are not so obvious on DPR because of the greater traffic density.

I like this site and most of the regulars, but I would love to see more members, and a greater variety of topics. I do not expect others to find my postings interesting, and, not being a tourist type, I cannot vary the locale much! I am not alone in this, which is why we need more members and more participation of the 3,500 lurkers to get us out of the rut(s).

Agree we need more active members. Not sure how to find them until we solve some basic problems with the site created with SEO in mind. We have hashed all this to death and know there’s nothing further Alan or Arvo can do without help from 2 more people. Since there are truckloads of disheartened DPR users mourning over the loss of threaded view, offering it here would be an excellent way to bring them aboard while they are still disgruntled.

And yes we need more different attractions here. You created an excellent ongoing thread about My Town but I don’t participate because I don’t live in a town or city. We need the Town, the landscapes, the cats, the c&c and all the others and more because that’s how to build a vibrant community. But it is still almost impossible for new people to find us unless recruited by one of us.

    Minniev,

It seems to me obvious that most of the complaints on DPR are by retirees who have been there for ever, and who are gradually coming to the end of their tenure! I dont know if there is a silent mass of younger members that will carry the site. We dont quite have that problem here.

On threaded view, there is also a technical implementation problem here. I think the quoting system helps greatly and is better in control than on DPR.

As far as your problem is concerned, there must be some towns that you visit within 100 miles of your home. I suggest that you adopt one or more that you visit from time to time, and show us pictures of what goes on there. (I note that none of our US members showed us the recent demonstration marches!) The Deep South is very different from where most of us live (I only got as far south as Savannah, GA and Tampa, FL) -- but you are so used to it that you may not be aware of the differences that would interest others.

Also discuss pixls us ... a new post comes up every 15 sec or so ...

    Me neither.

Sad day for me personally when this site deliberately moved away from hardware and tech stuff,

Me neither, I'm stuck in front of my computer in a wheelchair all day and can barely walk more that a few yards. I take very few pictures these days - certainly none worth posting here ...

Phil Askey is no longer part of their team - left in 201x according to AI. He is the originator of their threaded view.

Ah, I didn't know that. We (Bob) are working on threaded view, but it isn't simple to implement. Hopefully, your patience will be rewarded.
