Just saw this article online: www.digitalcameraworld.com/news/panasonics-first-mft-camera-with-phase-detect-autofocus-coming-soon

It refers back to an M4/3 Rumors website article about a possible G7 Mark II and I guess this fits with Panasonic's recent statement that it still thinks there is a market for compact cameras.

I'd rather see a rangefinder style body, i.e. a GX7 Mark IV, which would probably be called a GX9 Mark II or a GX10 outside of Japan. I think that would be really cool.

Actually I can't complain about the AF for photos as is in my G9 or GX9 but I would love to see it in any MFT body with the latest video abilities as that is where Panasonic really suffers currently.

I prefer rangefinder bodies myself. My GX8 is getting long in the tooth and would welcome a new body with phase detect AF.

This would be great to see. I wouldn't mind a rangefinder style either - like my GX8 but I wonder about a G7 Mark II instead of a G9 Mark II. Well, take what we can get I guess. I would love a G9 with PDAF.

I think the G9 is nigh on perfect, certainly for my needs. What I would change it for is a lighter version.

Yes, the rumors indicate G7 ii. That was a camera with neither image stabilization nor weather sealing.

It would make sense to put PDAF in a smaller lighter G90/G95, if you ask me. SLR shape is more popular than rangefinder.

I agree! But I am still waiting (impatiently) for a G9 mk II with phase detect autofocus. 43rumors.com says G9 mk II should arrive soon - before the end of the year, for sure.

The G7 is SLR shaped. The GX7 is rangefinder shaped.
The G9 guts stuffed into a G100 body would be perfect. The G100 has a juuuuust big enough grip. And a lovely EVF. I don't care about weather sealing. Or IBIS. Or phase detect. They could leave all those out. Faster sync speed would be marvelous
