Pet photography might be useful under Descriptive Photography. Where else would I post the wonderful picture of our dog?

Sorry, only just seen this request. Does anyone else want this?

I’m happy enough using other categories, i.e. Portrait, myself. Is certainly a popular genre though. Glass recently added a CATegory that features Appurrciations — your device delivers a haptic trill when you like a cat photo. Maybe Pets, Zoos & Domestic Animals to broaden the range?
Agree. Even though we love our dogs, maybe it is too specific for the current size of the community. I would vote for PETography, not including zoo animals.
We have "Nature & Wildlife". How about adding pets to that one? I'm trying not to add more forums if we can accommodate them within an existing one. But if you feel pets won't fit there, let me know

I was confused on DPReview whether to post to Wildlife or Portrait for my cat photos. I think a category for general pets is OK.
Hello. My suggestion would be to establish a separate forum for Pet Photography. I always wondered why DPR did not have one. It seemed a gaping hole. Was pet photography perhaps considered "too cute" a topic for serious photographers? Yet there are many people who love their pets and taking photos but are not that much into gear. Such a forum could be a point of difference from DPR and bring new members in. Of course, once they have arrived at dprevived they would become familiar with the site and have the opportunity to grow skills. "Pet Photography" is wonderfully simple and complete forum name. It does not require further explanation. I'm guessing that most posts would be about cats and dogs, but the occasional hamsters, snakes, turtles, would keep things interesting. This is just my two cents worth.
I have found that pet photography provides a useful baseline level of photographic activity for those times when life becomes too busy for photo jaunts. Here is my obliging model Sophie on a routine walk through the neighborhood.
Yes, pet-otography is more on the cute/fun side rather than technical like bird photography -for example- can be.
OK - let's see how busy it gets. I'll create one.
