    Hello all.

An idea by David Wien seemed to me to be really good, so we are going to try it out.

Post a photo in the relevant PoTM thread. Just one per post (so can have mulitple entries). Put any explanation you wish. If people like it, they click the 'like' button. Viewers can click more than one 'like' for different photos. You cannot like your own picture. If you do, that picture will be disqualified. No comments from others necessary. At the end of the month, we add up the likes and the winner has their picture displayed as a sticky thread for the following month for everyone to admire. If there is a draw, the judges (that's the admins) will decide - and they may decide on more than one.

If you have more than one photo, you can upload it in a new post in the same weekly thread. If you don't win one week, you can post the same picture in another month's thread.

The competition will close on the last day of the week (Sunday) in order to give us time to do the counting. Next week's will open as soon as the winner is announced.

I will open the October thread today, so you can start posting. Let's see how this goes.

Perhaps this thread needs to be pinned for a while.
(didn't see it before posting in the P.O.T.M thread) 😉

Hi Alan, great idea (from an attention seeker 😏 so you will get plenty from me).

As quoted, you say comments not necessary, but is it ok to post comments if we wish?

    Thx, Bryan

Is there any date when photo has been taken restrictions?

    Thread has been pinned locally.

    I've pinned this locally.

If you wish to comment on your own picture, feel free to do so in the post. For others, I'd say no as all you are doing is voting. Making comments such as 'it would be better if ...' or 'I really like this one' are not part of the competition and would not happen in a club competition. Does that make sense?

No - like all photo competitions, you can put in whatever you feel is good.

As I said before, if you start a competition, the rules of the competition should be written in the start of the competition thread. Not in some other thread like this one.

Doesn't voting have to be anonymous?

I aslo think voting should be anonymous.

I'm going to recommend some sort of posting count requirement, or "approved user" account type thing in order to vote so someone doesn't decide to make a bunch of sock puppets to win. Not that it wouldn't be almost immediately obvious, but better to nip it in the bud before someone tries it, and given some of the behavior we've already seen around here, someone would try it.

Why? All you are doing is clicking 'like'. If you can't remember to do that once a month... The rules (and subsequent clarifications) are all here and it's pinned.

Once again, why? You are clicking that you like a picture. If you don't like it, don't click.

If you have a 100 pictures which makes 100 participants. Even if 50 will vote for every picture, it'll be 5,000 votes to count. How easy to make mistake. But if you have just number of votes displayed, makes it much easier for the winner determination. Also transparency. People would want to see how many votes were placed for each picture, not just seating and counting.

That would mean a forum change. This is just a bit of fun. And it's not hard to add up - if you look at some of the photos it says "xxx, yyy, zzz and 7 others liked it".

The amount of overthinking going into this low stakes, just for fun competition boggles my mind.

I am wondering if it might work better if it was photo of the week?
