    Hi Sigma Shooters:
This is the last addition of the weekly pix post I will be hosting. I am moving on to the Focal World site and posting images there. I will check in here from time to time to see how you all are doing and to see if Sigma ever produces the long awaited Sigma FFF Camera. It has been my pleasure to host this site for a number of years, I feel it is time for me to move on. I wish all my Sigma friends the best and lot of good light!
You all know the drill, limit your post to 3 images, give your post a title so the comment are properly directed and of course, all Sigma cameras and lenses are welcome
So long my friends and I will be checking on you,
    Larry Douglas

This is a Pink Dahlia and was shot with the DP3 Merrill.

Beautiful flower picture Larry, as expected for a DP3M camera :-)

Thanks for starting the weekly threads, and I'll see you on Focal World. AFAIK, they don't have a Sigma forum, so we will be dispersed to other fora.

That will be our loss, Larry, sad to say.

Now I will have to hijack someone else's threads on technical matters ... ho-ho ;-)

Thanks David and you are right the DP3 Merrill is awesome for flower shots. I Also use the 105mm OS macro lens on the SD1 Merrill but it is a little long for decent close ups. There are a lot of flower shot on the Focal World site, but nothing to compare to your focus blended shots that I have seen so far. The dominant forum over that is landscape images. So of your wine country would go well there. Look forward to seeing you over there. ;>)

Au Revoir Finger Picker Ted, I will miss some of your hijacking of my threads and the spirited conversations that followed. The comments on Focal World are very mild for the most part, but they do have a technical section that you might find interesting. As I said above I will be checking back from time to time to see how the Sigma group faring in this new environment.

    Best regard and good light!

    Larry J.

    larryj,
Sorry to read that you will not be continuing here.
I've been looking at Focal World and note that only Nikon, Canon & Sony cameras are listed in the Technical area with a nod to Leica also. No sign of Sigma gear.

    I'm very sorry as well!
My photo of the week is a newly processed (last night) DP2Merrill of the Na Pali cliffs on Kauai, taken from a moving catamaran boat. I processed a slightly lighter version this morning, also online at flickr. Large size (1024x683)

Well, I'll post my current photos and comments in an April thread, since there isn't a May weekly thread. In my peony adventures, I find whites are hardest to capture nicely with the DP3Quattro. Plus the difficulties with seeing the (non-viewfinder) screen. Here are two white examples, both of flickr in big sizes and full EXIF, a white peony crop (focus point on lower left blossom) and the white fringe tree (Chionanthus virginicus) blossoms.

Yes, whites can be rather demanding:

You don't have to go all the way up to 256 to give an impression of white. The highest 8-bit value I find in this image is 235. It's all relative.
