Would it be possible not to display "Threads Dump" in the THREADS main list?
At home, I don't put my garbage in the middle of the living room for everyone to see.
The "Dump" category does not deserve the same prominence and encourages people to keep participating.
    Thank you.

    +1.
I was about to propose the same. You beat me to it.

I wanted to do this, but was outvoted. I will ask again.

I agree as well. I accept the reasoning behind having/using a garbage dump, but I don't think it looks good in the front yard. I know where it is if perchance I wanted to dig in the garbage, but I'd rather not have it right in my face.

    Hi,

In my house, there are trash cans in every room. And a garbage can in the kitchen. But the used cat litter baggies go into their own special garbage can in the garage.

And auto correct changed Special into Social there. Maybe it's AI and chiming in here? :P

We may have a short term solution and a long term one. But nothing until we've tested it. So, I will keep you updated when I know more.

    Outvoted by who?

It seems to me this is not totally a community run forum.

Why not start a poll and let the members vote and decide?

I suspect the overwhelming majority would support the op.

You are right - it is not a community RUN forum. if it was, we'd have more help. We do ask the community about things and take their preferences into account. Sometimes, it's easier (given the amount of time we have available) to do things one way or another. Which was the case in this instance.

But we are able to revisit decisions - and later versions of the s/w may make doing things differently easier.

So we can expect a poll on where the community would like the Dumpster to be located?

Alan, the admin team was diligent about inviting and considering membership input when creating the documents establishing the foundational mission and principals of DPRevived. With that foundation laid, there's no need to take the pulse of the membership everytime the admin team makes a decision or takes action. As long as admin decisions and actions are consistent with DPR's mission and principals, they're reflecting membership input.

Are those docs pinned someplace near the top of the site where members and interested visitors can read them? If not, I'd recommend doing so. Members come and go but the mission and principals remain as the foundation upon which the site is built and grows.

    Bill,
That is one of the things we are working on. The docs are ready - but we want to make a few changes to make them accessible. I have a list of stuff we are planning to do - just no timescales. I will publish them once things are a little more settled.

Things have slowed in August due to Bob being ill, Martin very busy with work and Arvo away for most of the month. So, things will happen, just not as fast as we had hoped.

    Cheers

    Good grief...much ado about nothing.!
Leave it where it is for Pete's sake and stop whinging like a whimpering child.
It isn't in the middle of anyone's living room- false equivalency!
    What's with you lot...?

I thought so for a while as well… but it kinda is, if you‘re entering via the threads tab at the top, which a number of people seem to do. No idea if it‘s the same for search results, but it might be.

    Hi,

The Threads Tab is always going to show you any Dump threads which have had recent activity. Coming in there is not going to change this no matter where the actual Dump forum is put.

Only way I can see to change that is to make all Dump threads invisible to the Threads Tab. Dunno if that is possible with the board software or not.

I come into the Medium Format Forum and go to the Threads Tab after that and see what else is going on. I still wish to see what's new at the Dump, even thought I may not read any. So removing such from the Threads Tab gets a No vote from me.

Thanks Stan, for the alternate view.

I can remove the Dumpster threads from the main view - but the admin team decided not to. So, for now it stays. We (the team) are still discussing this, but it's not the most important thing on our agenda.

In early September, I hope to publish a list of what we ARE working on. But not yet - we are still mulling things over. And we will not be publishing timescales given that we are all volunteers with real work and families to come first.

Personally I don't care where it is located but I feel most prefer it to be off the threads view page.

Looking at the lack of posting activity of "the team" am I the only one who suspects DPRevived Admin is nearly a cyberspace version of the Mary Celeste?

Hoping for a quick & full recovery - I'm sure many others share this sentiment. And thanks to you for keeping the show on the road

    Totally agree

Not so sure. Personally, I'd like it to stay there
