Out cruising S. Humboldt for pictures last week.
Pictures here look a lot better if clicked to large.

This was the beautiful old, 1930s creamery out in the Hawklands of Southern Humboldt. It dated from the 19th century and had burnt down quite a few times. The last time it burnt, in the 1930s they rebuilt it in brick, or as the geologists call it, unreinforced masonary. It has been through a lot of earthquakes since the 1930s, but the 6.4 magnitude last December 21 got it.

That's all. And I'm out of fresh pictures. It's sunny with some nice clouds right now. I'm going out to get some more. Rich

It was pretty nice here today Rich. Partly sunny it said but mostly sunny as it turned out. Only a high near 10 C but better than some snow we had in the air the previous couple of days. Good that you are having some nice weather too!

Too bad about the 'creamery' Rich. I like ice cream! It is good any time of the year! An interesting set to look through. A kite festival happening or is that a regular occurrence? The cattle grazing with the ocean behind them makes a nice scene.

Have you clicked on an image here today? New stuff going on!

    Nice images Rich.
I LOVE the new enlarged view!
You can just index through all the photos in a post, you can enlarge it to "full screen",
and it shows some basic EXIF data (Camera, ISO, focal length, speed (although it's the f/stop), and f/stop).
    Nice!

Also, is the path info just above the thread title new?
If not, I've been missing out on this great navigation tool up to now.
You can just click on whatever higher level you want to return to and it takes you there.
    Another really nice touch!

Congratulations to the developers on a major improvement.

Love that old brick building. Sad to see stuff fall away over time…much like I am!

Jim, don't take the exif data as being correct. The shutter speeds are incorrect for some reason! Moving in the right direction though!

Yeah, the creamery is the best. Sad it's falling apart. Imagine the flats that it could have housed!

Nice we've got an image viewer. Even if the Open feature is a little wonky. Are larger files allowed too now?

Exify doesn't work with the viewer. I have three EXIF extensions installed now. Only one of them works. Probably because the image is displayed as a background image and not an embedded image. The one that works displays more of the EXIF than the others, in a separate window. It's called xlFr, github.com/StigNygaard/xIFr .

That old brick creamery was closed long before I got here, fifty years ago, Andrew. The dairy coop built a larger one a few miles upriver and closer to the dairies. It makes great ice cream, but it is in an ugly, industrial building. I like their vanilla bean burgundy cherry.

Not a kite festival. People with kites show up when there is wind. Kites always remind me of my Dad. He built his own, and some of them were huge and scary. I had one lift me off the ground when I was 5 yo and I remember him grabbing me in a bear hug to save me.

I hadn't seen the new features. I wonder if this is a sign they are going to add threaded view. Or is that something not adaptable to this forum's software?

I have been about to buy the new MZ 90mm macro for a couple of months. I like all the features it has, but something has been holding me back, as if it would be a mistake. Today I found some tulips and put the 12-100 at 90mm and realized that 90mm does not suit the kind of close up photography I like to do. I wanted the shiny lens and had been ignoring it's unsuitability for me...and the 12-100 is just too good. Bah. I want retail therapy and I am stymied.

    How about a nice tulip?

The old creamery was in great shape before 21 December, 2022, Charlotte. It is in an area where there is no vandalism. It was beautiful. All the damage happened in the quake. Rich

Thanks, Dave. Yeah, I am at risk of that, too. You have your share of quakes up there on Vancouver Island. You should check your self after each one, to see what might have fallen off. I do. Rich

Rich, notice the shutter speeds are not correct but the other parts seem to be. I don't know if they know but presumably someone has told them.

I like the tulip. The dandelions are not out yet but it won't be long! I would not hold my breath on threaded view. If it were easy DPR would not have been the only site that had it, and they had it as far back as at least 2002. I know because I checked.

The air filters got clogged last week with debris off the sycamore trees. No rest for the wicked. I must have been very bad!

As I understand it they think they'll be able to do it. It's been Bob's plan all along. But it won't be easy.

So it was the quake. They are tearing down a couple of really old silos here now. In the city, by the river. They haven't been used for a couple of decades, but when I came here they were still in use. A big arm swung out over the river and filled boats with grain. The original plan was to rebuild them into flats. I was shocked to read they are coming down now. I hadn't heard they had changed their minds.Idiots. Would have made really cool apartment houses.

Thanks, Paul. I'm happy you like. The man on the beach was skinny as a rail and also gibbering incomprehensibly. Considering the depth of the hole, he may have China syndrome. 🤪 Rich

A great selection of images Rich. Our weather has been really great for the last couple of days and I camped overnight by a beach. Will post some pics later.
And no the guy on your beach wasn't me. 😄

Thanks, Dave. I'm happy for your good weather and look forward to your pictures. The guy on the beach was way to skinny to be you. I know you're lean, but that guy was skeletal. Rich

Crackig pics Rich. Love the cows and the sea. Reminds me of Fawlty Towers...herds of Wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plains...the sea is that bit between the land and the sky...
Massive fan of Italian gelato and once took a cheap flight from London to Venice, ate three gelati (all chocolato) and got the return flight. The ice cream cost more than the flight...

Thanks, WhyNot. I live kites, they were a big deal when I was a kid. My Dad built them. This forum is doing the same to me. I have trouble keeping track of where I've been. Rich

    The octopus one is cool!

I've looked around the rest of the forum a bit. Alas it seems what was bad with DPR has migrated well. Too well.

Charlotte, by bad are you referring to the behaviour of some posters and the nonsensical back and forths that go on forever on certain 'topics'. I have seen some of those and really do not get the need to have the last word that seems to permeate those exchanges. I dropped in on a few of those discussions (read only) and was immediately reminded of things that would be better off buried!

The sad part is that other activity is still so low here. I used to at least skim through the Open talk and Beginners forums at DPR. But here those people have gone on a posting frenzy. There's nothing else there. Which is understandable. I wouldn't want to start a thread there either. Oh well. Things will normalize, I guess.
