Black crowned night heron at Woodley Island Marina. They sleep all day and aren't photogenic whilst snoozing. They are also misnamed. Every one I have seen has a blue crown.

The hawks left early this year. This is the last day I found some, 26 February. This one refused to fly, it's just after lunch and it probably was full of squirrel and digesting. I stayed back and let it ruminate. We stared at each other for a while and I blinked first and left.

The weeks between the hawk migration and flowers remove two of my main subjects. I go to the garden centers and get a few flowers to tide me over. This tulip got its petals blown off on a windy day.
