I’m a street photographer who’s been shooting exclusively with the Leica Q2 for nearly two years. I do have a Panasonic S5 II, but I rarely use it. Before the Q2, I used the Fuji X100V for about a year. When I had the Fuji, I rarely used my G9 and exchanged it for the S5 II, which was a rather unnecessary move. I think the size of the Q2 and X100V is the reason I prefer them over the G9 and S5 II. However, having a single focal length is seriously restricting. I want to experience ultra-wide angle (UWA) and telephoto range, which I believe offer many creative options.I was thinking of getting the S9 with the 18-40mm lens, but I wanted to try another camera I rarely use: the GM5. I didn’t spend much time or attention getting familiarised with it, and I didn’t like its handling. A few weeks ago, I bought another GM5 (for investment) with a small Sony grip, and suddenly, it became much more fun. I cant believe how a small piece of plastic made a difference.Instead of spending £1,000 on the S9 and a new lens, I wanted to try extreme focal lengths (for me) compared to my favourite 28mm with the GM5. I used a manual SLR Magic 8mm and a fantastic plastic lens. I must say, the 40-150mm range is too long on the 40 end. Perhaps I should try the 12-60mm lens I have.Anyway, the results are pleasing for me. I think I’ll stick to a two-camera setup: the GM5 with the 8mm and 12-60mm lenses, and the Q2. The Q2 is great for low light and high megapixels, while the GM5 offers a much wider focal range and it is still really small. Alternatively, I could use the GM5 8mm SLRM, the 15mm DJI, and the 12-60mm lens for everything.
