I don't know if I have ever posted in this forum before. I'm a volunteer photographer for my local nature preserve near Los Angeles, California, USA.

I thought you would all get a kick out of this leucistic Red-winged Blackbird we call "Baldy".He was first sighted 2 or 3 years ago and has returned every year during our wet season. It's not my best Baldy photo, but you get what you can (best viewed @ 100%).

Edit: I found a close-up photo of Baldy on eBird taken back in January by one of our birders.

The leucism doesn't seem to make a difference. He manages to carve out, patrol, and defend his territory so I assume there are some hidden lady friends nesting in our stands of tule reeds.

I've never seen a leucistic red-winged blackbird. Thanks for sharing the photo and the link to the close-up. Baldie needs an IG account :)
