    my RX10 IV 4+ years old;
    probably 40K+ shutter trips
    probably 100K+ on-off actuations
    has anyone's RX10 IV died or gone cripple?
    if no RX10 V by time RX100 VIII introduced**,
    then, even though a lens step-down, what
    other fixed lens choice? fixed lens is a must...

    **suffers from FOMO-BC (broken camera)

    unrelated: is this newish Sony Cybershot forum
    the clear best choice post-DPR?
    did any others appear? thanks in advance...

    Of the new sites, this one seems to have the largest amount of traffic (and of course the highest quality participants).

    The bridge camera forum structure is undergoing a bit of flux, but you've found the forum for this camera.

    The new Bridge Camera forum
    dprevived.com/c/bridge-camera-talk/160/
    was established for cross-camera comparison and general discussion.

    People have been happy with the reliability of RX10, and of course nobody has any good information regarding a potential RX10v.
    Are you looking to change brands? Panasonic FZ2500 or FZ1000ii are quite a bit less expensive but of marginally lower quality than RX10iv.

    I don't know the Fuji line well enough to add anything useful. You could post questions here in the Fuji Finepix forum
    dprevived.com/c/fujifilm-finepix-talk/16/

    or in the bridge camera forum. At the moment, you're more likely to get an answer from the Finepix forum because it gets more traffic.

    In case you don't need the focal range of 24-600mm, you might get by with RX100VII and 24-200mm? It has much better AF and is more portable.

    I keep hoping that there will be a RX10v with the new processing features.

    A successor is not likely to be seen in 2023! May be it will never come? 🤷

    My RX10 mk I is alive and kicking, bought in November 2016. Around 50k shots in all kind of weather between -8°C and +42°C, in very humid and in very dry, dusty conditions, between 0 m and 5200 m above the sea level.
    I would like to see a Mk V with a 24-300 f/2.8 but that is definitely not going to happen.
    A Mk V may appear in the future, who knows.

    thanks for responses;
    priorities for me are highest IQ & lowest weight;
    I would switch brands if getting both those;
    a possible alternative would be a changeable
    zoom permanently attached to camera with
    bigger sensor, same or better IQ, but not heavier...
    I'm guessing the latter requires limited zoom range,
    say, 24-150 or less...? not willing to restrict to that...yet;
    Longer telephoto use is rare but not absent...:

    Is the issue weight or comfort while carrying?
    I find that the Op/Tech Bino/Cam harness makes a big difference in how I feel at the end of a day.

    First, there are no fixed lens cameras that come anywhere close to the RX10iv. So, one would have to go up a level.
    Well, let's dream a bit. How about a Sony A6600 APS-C camera body? Now there is no single lens that covers the 24 to 600mm zoom range. But we can come close. Trying for a minimum number of lenses, how about a Sony 18-105 which is equivalent to 27-157mm. Then Sigma makes a 60-600mm lens. I have not researched every lens out there, or perused the reviews, but we are dreaming. So, let's see, The body costs $1800. The small lens is $648 and the long lens is $2000. I am up to almost $4500 without any sales taxes. Yike! That would never get by the CFO (wife).

    I am sure there are lots of other lens combos, but as I said, I have not delved that deeply into it. I am well over my budget in any case.

    As I see it, there is no way I can match what I already have for less than around $3000. I seriously doubt I will be getting enough improved IQ that would be visible without very deep pixel peeping. I owned an A6000 with the kit lenses. I did not see an increase in the IQ between that combo and the RX10.

    Don't even think about the extra weight. That long zoom weighs 5.5# without the camera body.

    So, even if I hit the lottery, there does not seem to be a camera option out there that can beat the size, weight and zoom range of the RX10iv.

    My alternative is my A6400, with excellent 16-70, 18-135 and 70-350 lenses (and a few more). This provides a better UI, better AF, and higher IQ alternative. You can zoom while shooting, and switch the camera off and on without changing the zoom. It's also quicker to start up.
