Late this afternoon, I took a run by Goose Lake again (yesterday I said it was Gem Lake, but, it's really Goose Lake).
There were 100's of pelican there today.

There were individuals, small groups, large groups, birds landing, taking off, and flying around...

    Here's a pair flying smoothly,
    O4220941_DxOs.jpg
When suddenly they decide it's time to land,
    O4220945_DxOs.jpg
Ohps, that was awkward. Well they smoothed out somewhat,
    O4220972_DxOs.jpg
and found some others landing as well.

    Doh! Face plant, that's embarrassing!

The gray streaks are branches between me and the birds, but I liked this pose so much I had to include it.

Anyway, I took about 850 frames today, lots and lots of funny action and beautiful flying.

Besides the pelican, there were lots of ducks and geese, and a few other birds. I was walking along the shore taking pictures of the pelicans and this goose got rather upset with me.

    Can you see why?

I also saw this guy which was a real surprise to me.

I'd never seen a kingfisher here before!
    And this one ...O4220647_DxOs.jpg
Anyway, it was another fun and productive outing.

Nice shooting there Jim. Those belted kingfisher I would love to get a few shots of. You might spot it again.

A good set Jim. That is an impressive image of the belted kingfisher! I have seen them here but never when I had a camera at hand. A colleague on mine had a painting done by Robert Bateman called Kingfisher in Aspen. It was impressive and much easier to get an image of than a real one with a camera!

Really productive, JIm, and nice photography. You have been having great luck finding birds. The pelicans coming in with their legs hanging down always reminds me of Disney characters. I am enjoying your birds. Rich

Like the pelican landing sequence Jim. When they lower the undercarriage it definitely upsets their equilibrium.😊

    Thanks Paul.
These were taken about 4:30pm yesterday, I see my camera had the time setting off by 7 hours, ugh!
Actually, yesterday I did go to the club and swam a mile at 6am; I should have this morning, but was lazy instead.

Nice .. More water birds form MN .... As I wrote before, I think, I've always associated MN with fish and not water birds .... Nice ...
