Lots of vlogs, blogs and reviews showing how the OM-1 does with birds and BIFs. Almost without exception these posts pair the OM-1 with the 150-400 often with a teleconvertor. Not surprisingly results are quite good as you would expect. In fact given 10 grands worth of kit, I would be very surprised if they didn't get good results. But how about doing the same exercise within the OM100-400, PL100-400 or even 100-300s which I would expect would be the tool kit of the majority of users have at their disposal.

Maybe they could go even further and review OM-1 with the 75-300mm 4.8-6.7. I am sure it is far more common than all those lenses you list.

But I think most people want to know what a body is capable of rather than what a particular lens is capable of. You want to know just how terrible the 100-400mm F5-6.3 is, to the point that it would completely discredit any praise of the OM-1? Then go read a review of the 100-400mm F5-6.3. Simple.

One of the exceptions happens to be one of the most thorough reviews I've come across: mirrorlesscomparison.com/om-system/om-1-bird-photography/
Mathieu used the Oly 300mm and 100-400mm and the PL200mm for his tests.

Your rant here isn't going to change anything at all.

Write to the authors of said reviews / blogs / etc, and tell them what you think they're missing. Then you might have a chance.

    Yup.

As we know, many of the ‘reviews’ aren’t really reviews at all. A lot of it is just product promotional material from youtube influencers. I have actually commented on some of the posted videos in areas where I don’t agree with either the content or approach. Most of the influencers tend to respond in one of 3 ways: 1) No response 2) Emotional rant 3) Delete your post.

Generally writing to the authors has the same benefit of expressing a view about them on this forum … i.e. no benefit.

"people want to know what a body is capable of" - not in lens reviews

If you do a quick Youtube search for "Olympus 100-400" there are loads of results. "Almost without exception" is just not true.

Mike Lane did a pretty good comparison of the Olympus 100-400mm and 150-400mm -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5vBetSaECE&t=751s

Many of those who post on various forums also seem to think that the rest of us spend money on gear like drunken sailors on shore leave and take one or two trips to exotic places every year.
